Re noisy speedo head

Post by mikeki »

:hi: Hi can anyone help with this problem?

I have a J reg GtII that has done 127,000 miles. There is a noise from behind the dash when the car gets up to 75 mph and 80 mph. It sounds like it is coming from the back of the rev counter or speedometer. The sound disappears below 75 mph and also interestingly if the speed goes above 80 mph. Any ideas on how to fix this one? Does anyone have a spare speedo cable for a GT11 from 1992?

Thanks

is the speedo accurate(ish)? have you compared it to a splatnav?

:hi: Hi Nate

No I have not tried that. I think the speedo is fairly accurate. It is a vibrating sound at approx 70-80 and then above 80 disappears, as well as below 70. Really annoying as the rest of the car is sound. I think it may be time for the instrument panel to come out and a look at the back connector.

Thanks for the suggestion

Regards

yeah mine does this, mine sounds similer to tappet noise but only audible a slower speeds. my advice is get one from the dealers, mine was from an aftermarket place to cure this same problem, all it did was change the pitch of the noise and the speed it does it at.

I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!
