If money weren't an object (performance)

Post by daveyg »

So i have an ABF in my Mk2, i have a 4-2-1 manifold, a BMC carbon filter and have just acquired a p&p head with schrick cams. It should go well but it did get me thinking that if i had the money what would i do to the engine? After looking at the VW Golf mk2 limited's with 16v G60 engines i reckon thats the way i would go. Bahn Brenner do a conversion kit but you are talking £k's. I wouldnt personally want to go the 20vt route (although im sure its great) purely down to the fact i feel it is too modern an engine for the car. The other option is going turbo with a T3 or twin 45's etc.

Question is, what would you do?

It would also be a 16vG60 for me, with Syncro

Very odd as i've been looking at G60 Limited info most of this evening before seeing this thread!

I'd have a 2.0l 16v out of the BTCC Audi quattros. (9a, 6a, derivative).

305bhp naturally aspirated 8200rpm. Yes sir :vcool:

Matched with a Sadev sequential 6 speed gearbox.

the problem with running just RWD is there is no VW gearbox that will sit transversly, and drive the rears only.
G60s cant be mounted logitudinal either, they starve round corners that way round :groove:

"If money weren't an object"
I for one would not be messing with any of my Scirocco's!
I would be outside some showroom selling either exotic Italian machinery or likewise British :hehe:

^ what he said.

Rocco wise a nicely tuned 20vt, about 210, maybe 220 brake. Easy to own and run and still quick enough to scare the idiots.
Keeping thinking about it as the rest of the car is done. Wilwood brakes rock my tiny little world

G60, Rieger wide kit and rear wheel drive (to use all that power and wide tyres on the back) :)

on a second thought, i wonder if that 4 wheels drive system on the Audi A1, is small enough to go under the rocco, or a rocco body to go on top of the A1 chassis, thoight the same about the A3 :pilot:

Move along nothing to see here :yup:

A3 will be too big. and rwd won't be possible on any transverse applications.. so you would need to mod the g60 quite a bit to run longitudinal!
syncro system with a manual sharan haldex rear diff ftw!

Going on the original question and using what you've got, I would fit throttle bodies and a proper ECU. Good for about 200bhp with ample torque. They'd work perfectly with the P&P head and cams too.

My race scirocco had just over 200bhp (170+ at the wheels) and lets say quick enough ;) Keeps up with a mk3 scirocco with 260bhp up to about 115mph anyway. At the moment I'm having fun with a 9A on Weber 40s with Newman cams (about 180bhp). Plenty quick enough.

160 or 170hp 1.4TSI with DSG :groove:

I was playing with idea putting 160hp TSI + 6-speed gearbox into my rocco ( engine, gearbox, ecu and other goodies from wrecked rocco only driven 16 000 km for 2700€) but big problem is to find somebody who could delete everything else but engine management from ECU because I think that it would be too challenging to control charger and turbo with aftermarket engine management. Afterall I'm going old skool with 9A.

The only after market ECU that should be able to to that is one from here - http://www.tour-de-force.co.uk/ Their ECU is the only after market ECU that will properly control the 2.0l TSFI engine.

Ran that ECU in our Elise Trophy car for the last two years and it is superb, far better than we needed!

The remapped 1.4TSI unit is extremely impressive, Revo stage 1 takes it to 210bhp and it really shifts then!
