VW Hose clips !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must have been covered before but after lots of Googling around I got no real answer (well none I had not already figured out for my self)

Those spring loaded coolant hose clips

We currently have 3 VW's (2 x Rocco's and 1 x T25 flat 4 Camper) and of course they all have at least 10 of those horrid clamps.

Each time I take one off I try to replace it with a "proper" jubilee clip but sometimes I either don't have a suitable jubilee clip to hand, or the clamp is simply a mare to get off in the first place due to space restrictions etc.

I know there is a snap on tool but they are VERY expensive
I also know (and have done it) that you can carefully Dremel cut them off (bit risky to the hose !)

What do you do with them ?

Cut them off with a dremel then get a set of good quality Stainless jobbies.

I use a pair of "long nosed mole grips". They get into tighter spaces as they're not half as bulky as standard grip and the longer nose gets you right on the clamp. Now what i've also done is grind out a a notch on each face at the end of the grip. This mean you get better purchase on the clamp. If you need a pic of them, let me know. :good:

Yeh, I should've said I have used mole grips, I have the holes in my hands to prove it :?
Oh, and ping and your eye is out  (at least you don't need safety goggles with screw clips !)

I'm going to buy a whole selection of stainless jubilee clips to have at the ready each time I have to take one of them bliddy clips off !

i have allways used molegrips and just moved them back and left them on the pipe that way if they do ping off you wont lose a eye and its ready for you at the right angle when you need to put it back on :yup:

i cut the tang off the inside that limits the amount you can open them. this gives you a bit more too play with.

depending on which one you're working on, these are good. i got mine for £15 from the local toolvan, so you should be able to find them cheaper than that ebay link.

I'll second that one. I use these all the time and they're fantastic. The only hindrance is that sometimes they don't open as wide as they could which makes it difficult to get them over the ridges.
