Fuel economy

Post by DanH »

I'm averaging about 32 - 35mpg/300 - 330 miles a tank (from full to the tip of the red zone) from my 1.6GT, which is totally standard apart from a weber carb that was fitted back when the car wasn't old and a powerflow exhaust the previous owner had made to almost match the original.

Am I expecting too much from a 24 yr old 1.6 or is this a bit low? Almost all the driving I do is on shropshire A roads interspersed with a few roundabouts and some 30 zones, but no real town driving or sitting in traffic and it's usually just sitting at the speed of the car in front so not really ragging it about much.

i think thats about average really. i drive a gt2, so thats a 1.8 carb (with webber) and on average small runs i'll get high 20's low 30's, but lately i've been driving longer trips (gradually moving my stuff over to my new student house) and got 120miles to £20, i work that out at about 36. i'm sure 40's are achievable, but i'd rather have fun.

I always got around 400 miles to a tank on my weber carb'd 1.6GT, but that might be cos it was a daily and couldn't rag it on the way to work in traffic!

really depends on your driving style. i could get anything out of my scala from 45mpg if i was nice to it right down to single figures if i really pushed it hard across the moors

That's what most of my driving is like, hence thinking I should be getting more mpg haha, I do like to put my foot down sometimes but the vast majority of the time it's just cruising at somewhere between 55 and 30 depending on the speed limit/how many lorries are about
