tappets
does the dx engine in my 84 storm have hydraulic tappets fitted,my cylinder head is very noisey on tick over and it sounds like one or two tappets are load,it quietens down when you rev it,are they easy to fix any help will be appreciated.regards john

If they have never been changed they are not hydraulic tappets on a 1984 Storm (I have the same!).

Ther are 2 types of tappet, hydrolic and bucket and shim, if the cam shaft has 5 bearing caps its bucket and shim (yours should be)...
the noise is probably due to the valve clearences being to large, haynes tells you how to check them, with bucket and shim you need to measure the existing clearance and adjust the clearance by changing the shims to meet the recomended specifications. you will also notice improoved performance if the valve clearances are set correctly.
If hydrolic, the only solution is to replace the tappets as complete units..
