Which oil debate resurrected again

Post by RoccoGTII »

Hi,

Following advice from good friends, went to VW dealer rather ha-fr**ds and bought myself all the bits to give "G-ale" a full service (easy). (yes the car has a name now - everyone else has one and felt it time).

However, they sold me 5w 40w oil for the car. Looks green when you pour it in !

Is this too low, sounds ok 'ish but preference would tell me to go for 10w or even 15w which would preserve the engine.

My question to those in the know is should I be putting in 5w into the car?

If not, what is the best oil to use in the Rocco with 100,000 miles?

Thank you in advance. :read:

It sounds as if you have bought a fully synthetic oil, which is fine, it is a good quality oil but how much did you pay?

Go for what the original spec says: VW Quantum Blue 15w40 mineral - the one that comes in the blue container.
