Copied over from the thread in the help area, had a blocked drain hole, and the git was the rear drivers side, so i had to remover the sunroof, to be honest its really easy, just should have read the instructions more as i tried to get it out with the roof rolled all the way back and did this-



and after half an hour or so of trying to get something between the outer and inner roof came up with this, bit of plasic piping (been in the shed for years with a "that will come in useful" mark on it, nearly went to the tip last weekend) and some electical wire. Just fed the pipe to the drain and pushed the wire through to clear the blockage-



never been so proud to see the car have a leak-



fitting the roof though is a bugger

let just say its closed but still needs adjustment as the Haynes manual dosent tell you that the "closed"position when the pin comes out on the winder is set on the crank not in the sun roof mechanism. so you need to refit the whole lot, wind it all the way back, unscrew everything to free up the crank wheel, set it to the open position, reassemeble, check if it will close and tilt, then adjust to get it perfect by doing the perviois steps again. This took an hour in to the dark, finished at 10pm lastnight in the dark, but it just needs some adjusting :)

the standing water though had caused some damage, namelt to the support arm for the wind deflector which had obvioulsy been sat in water and rusted, so mush so the end ahd rusted off that hold it against the deflector!!!!! so need a new one

whats worse though wsa al my car needed ready for the Alltypes show on sunday was a wax and final wash, its now covered in black greas marks, so t-cut ect will be out tonight again!!!!! lol

I've also struggled with the bumper outer skin, just didn't want to come off without clips breaking, so it's still skew-wif! Don't blame you for leaving it and buying another.

I had better luck with the sun roof on my golf, but fitting a new seal is a right pain in he thumb... Was red raw from tryng to push it on, still not right (also going dark and looking like rain) and needs taking out again.

Removing the outer skin was a no no, i just knew I'd end up breaking it lol

lastnight more jobs done, finally fitted the poly hanger for the rear of the exhaust-







i wasnt happy with how low the exhuast was, so adjusted it up a notch, took it for a run and NO BANGING :) success

next job was a replacement clutch pedal rubber-



i also lightly flatted the painted bumper and gave it a damn good t-cutting, then it had a was, just needs fitting to the car before waxing, must admit i'm very happy with it :)







just need to wax it tonight and its ready for the car show, bet the neighbour think I'm mad, its been washed about 4 times this week lol

today it got its final wash ready for the car show tomorrow-



oh I also added this, my otherhalf was concerned about the age of the car, on top of that she got it for me along with an emergence boot kit-

That looks better.

I keep meaning to fit my extinguisher there, it's currently in the boot.

When you were shaving a bit off the lip of the header tank, do you know how much you can remove without causing it to leak? I need to modify mine a fair bit to get the upper brace to fit.

hey Stu, think it was 2-3mm, as much as i dared!!!!! just enought to allow the tank to sit down a little lower :) if you push the tank down to far it will push its way out of the taper bracket it sits in. think i dropped it down about 5mm or something like

I pulled my header tank out of the bracket and dropped it down. I was tempted to leave it there as it won't go anywhere but would prefer to sort it properly.

Well over the weekend I fitted this to my dash-



What is it I hear you say-



It was got off Ebay for £17 delivered and sold as a DIN replacement, I decided to go for this rather than a Audi or VW unit for a few reasons, its price, alright the finish isn’t as good as OEM, but also its size so easier to fit :)

So centre dash removed (Haynes says undo 5 screws and withdraw unit, in reality theres 2 more behind the heater facia and the heater unit its self, of and the under shelves both sides, so not bad Haynes!!!!!) oh and ashtray removed-



It was then out with the tools and start cutting-









And test fitted-



Now after cutting out all that plastic I needed to build some sort of bracket to hold the unit in place. My original idea was to use some metal banding to tie-ing timber roofs together for the job you know the stuff anout 10mm wide and full of holes. But after chatting the local DIY store owner, he said that this was to thin and what I needed was some metal. As that point I remembered that when I removed the old passenger side door I cut out the steel panels off it to practice welding on it “eventually”. So I left the DIY place with some aviation sheers and dug out one of the panels-



Some cutting, measuring and hammering on the vice later I had this-


Now the question was how to attach it, screws were no good due to lack off room, so I broke out the riveter-



So some measuring and using a piece of wood to drill against (luckily had a bit the perfect thickness!!!!) the bracket was riveted on both on top and underneath linking the top and bottom of what was the ash tray, this also helped stabilise it all as well as set the drink unit at the right height-





Luckily the draw in the unit don’t go all the way to the rear, there about 10mm of space. This allowed some self tappers to be used top and bottom to securely fix the unit on place, I also used some of the cut out plastic as a spacer to lift the unit up and level it by pushing it in below the unit with some sticky back foam (to help hold it and stop any rattles)-





To finish it off, the removable surround (jut like one for a car stereo) and the one for the stereo (mines silver) were treated to a coat of satin black so they would match-



Much better :)

And fitted to the car, Haynes say, put back in the reserve to removal, hmmm its not that easy. I also saw the state of the stereo wiring!!!!!! And decided to turn a blind eye lol

So here it it fitted-



And before you say, “hold on a minute doesn’t the top of the console come over” yes it does, but you can just about squeeze a can in (could do with some tweaking) but for me I’ll be using bottles-







To make sure it would clear would mean swapping over the stereo to the upper position and then cutting down the gear stick to miss the bottom of the holder.



Oh and the upper draw is just a tray-




And one more of it installed-



The only other job I had to do was relocate the immobiliser warning light that was in the middle of the voltmeter blanking panel next to the ash tray. This was moved to the chock blanking panel, mines an injection so will never be used :)

Good job eefy, can never have too many drinks holders in your motor vehicle.

well finally got the car over to a mate to fit the braided brake lines and what a differance, so much more feedback and a stiffer pedal, i feel as though if i wanted i could actually lock up the wheels!!!!!!!

when he was doing it he also replaced the rear brakce lines and modified a section forward of the rear beam so that nuts are more accessable ie can be undonw without removeing the beam, nt sure how he's done this but will try and get some pic over the weekend and show :)

i also got a wheel bearing changed to the front end, so no more annoying weering.

whilst it was in he alos mentioned that the inside edge of the front tyres was wearing, this is because I'm running nearly full cambers to stop the wheels rubbing on the arches. From a chat i've had with a few members its seems its not the wheels that are the problem ET25, but the soft lowered suspension. It means that the car handles like its on rails in the dry, but in the wet a relient robin can out drive me!!!!!

so just got some GT2 steelies that will be painted and fitted with reset camber, cant wait for the better handling.

I'll also hav an update on my sunroof, although I;ve had the replacement parts and painted them, due to the weather not had chase to fit and adjust the mechanism from whem i removed it.

right the car now needs a damn good clean ready for VWNW in a few weeks :)

Due to the issues I’ve been having with the camber of the front wheels, ie running lots due to the wheels rubbing on the arches, a change was in order. Well after picking up some steelies on Saturday-









and dropping by the local motor factors on the way back from Liverpool to pick up some more supplies-



I started cleaning up these-

After lots of cleaning, 2 bouts of alloy cleaner, they were ready for running down to clean off some of the rust around the holes. They were then liberally coated in rust treatment-



Next was another cleaning-



Then masking up and into the make shift spray booth, or manspace-



Safety first, and by dammit I needed it with the etch primer-



2 coats of etch primer-



2 coats of filler primer-



Not bad for a days work, I left this to go off over night

Sunday morning saw a light and then a heavy coat of satin black-





In the afternoon they got another liberal coating, one more tonight and then it’s just a tack coat and a single coat of lacquer just for some added protection.

Edging rings will be rubbed down tonight fingers crossed before a lick of paint.

Well another night of spraying and cleaning, last coat of satin black-





I know I;ve sprayed the weights but they will be covered by the outer wheel trim-

Next job was the outer wheel trim, these needed a lot of cleaning, 2 were caked in brake dust, found the easiest way to remove it was to use some 1200 grit paper and rub it down. I had started with elbow grease before moving upto t-cut!!!!





These are never going to be perfect due to the deep scratches. But I did as much smoothing as I dare, most of it is smooth to the touch. They will get a liberal coating of filler-
