P.s Can anyone tell me if this bush looks knackered ? Or if the part is easily sourceable, VWHeritage sells one for about £60 each

It looks okay. But it'll need to come out anyway when they powder coat it and with the effort you're going through why not make the most of it?

Agree with Funk.

Brackets and bolts look in good condition compared to mine so bushes should be too, but not that expensive to replace so might as well do it while it's off.

And as said there going to have to come out anyway.

Is that light at the end of the tunnel or a train coming the other way?

It's likely they've never been replaced - you may as well do the whole job properly.

They seem pricey for I guess one bush.

How about these http://www.superflex.co.uk/proddetail.p ... 03-1555KSS

I used them in my mk1, they can be a pain to get in as in one peice, you can get some which are split in 2.

There are loads of makes out there, Mk1 golf bushes are the same as the Sciorcco Mk2.

Really?
I admire your work and the effort but that's a bit of a naive attitude. No one will see it but you may well notice the difference. And if you want to keep it original go back to crappy fuel, strip all that powder coating off and fit less grippy tyres.
Original is not always best.

Unless you want a particularly firm/sporty ride, an equivalent of the standard rubber bushes will be fine; most people's experience of them these days is of crumbling, perished and squashed 20-30 year old bushes, so poly bushes are obviously an improvement, but might actually be unnecessarily harsh for normal road use.

Christ on a bike.

Superb dedication. What did you use to clean all the bolts? I found vinegar just the job pretty well but nothing like that.

Thanks, I just send em off to a company in Rochdale, Manchester, AnoChrome leave it all to them to clean and yellow zinc plate.. £20 a time.

Wish I could afford all VW Original parts but when a cylinder is £35 from VW it was £4 from a family members brakes place http://www.brakesint.co.uk it would be silly when the parts hidden and only used for show..

Looking good - it's really satisfying once this job is done! Makes such a difference to the car getting it detailed like that.

I went through it myself a couple of years ago on my own '86 GT (axle off, blasted, repainted, new brakes, full suspension rebuild etc.). Cost a fortune, but then again I had all genuine VW parts used, right down to the last nut bolt and spring washer. Also in Rochdale by the way - we'll have to meet up next year when the sun comes out again!
