That red speckled braided return hose to the expansion tank will be the envy of a few people! Can't get that anywhere it seems.
Good work. If you want it all perfect, get yourself some new braided vac pipe that isn't frayed. Will be black though not that original weird colour if that matters.

Hi, does anyone know the original finish on the filler neck ? Is it a satin black finish ? Or could I yellow zinc plate it to offer a better rust proofing ?

Satin black paint is the correct finish.
I fitted a brand new one to my car a few years ago now and this was the finish it came in. I gave mine a few extra coats of satin black Hammerite paint before fitting to make the finish stronger, as well as masking up and spraying the bulbous section near the top with Dinitrol wax- this is the most vulnerable part for rusting as it is welded on to the rest of the pipe and is in the firing line from debris flung up from the roadwheel.

The filler neck I bought from the VW dealer in Exeter in about 2004 was just bare metal.

Im gonna go with some VHT Chassis Epoxy Paint in Satin Black, the filler neck has VW inscribed in it, so i know its genuine so will emulate the finish it has now.
