A few hours today spent cleaning parts up and repainting. First up was the filler neck which is in real good shape apart from a bit of surface rust. Wire brushed it, treated it with rustproofer, and gave it a few good coats of black paint.


Cleaned up the replacement front struts and repainted them, i will build them back up tomorrow when everything has dried.



Same with the front calipers and carriers.


Also removed the old front brake hoses and pipes, ready to make up the new metal pipes tomorrow, refitted the fuel sender unit in the fuel tank and connected up the handbrake cables. Still loads to do !!!

A few productive hours today, built up the front struts, including new top mounts.


Cleaned up and painted, the front anti-roll bar and brackets and fitted a new track rod end on the drivers side. Fitted the new brake master cylinder and took off all the old metal brake pipes, made new ones and shaped them using the old ones as templates. Heres the fronts done.


And the rears fitted.





Started refitting the front suspension, hopefully will get this finished tomorrow.

i think in all seriousness Mark, when I get another Rocco it's coming up to Stoke for a once-over!

I saw this project in the flesh yesterday when i called on Mark to collect some wheels for my MK2. I think it's important on any project to have a good method and plan in place, remain patient and don't cut corners when it comes to quality. It was pretty apparent that Mark's right on top of this project and his workshop is just one of those proper places to be - a bit of a Scirocco shrine ;) At one point during my visit there were five Sciroccos in the space of a few yards! Best of all he seems to have the Staffordshire postal service on the payroll! (Mark may explain)

Back to it for a couple of hours today and managed to get the front suspension in and front brakes installed, with new Pagid pads and Goodridge braided hoses. Still hav'nt got the front ARB in as the paint was still wet on the brackets.




Also, gave the main fuel pipes a good wire brush, as i thought maybe id have to change them, but apart from light surface rust theyre sound, so il just rustproof and underseal them. Thats it now until next week as im working for the next 5 nights, so hopefully next tuesday i can bleed the brakes, fit the exhaust, change the cam belt and service the engine. She may even be back on her wheels by the end of wednesday !!!

Coming along nicely mate. I'm convinced you that you need coilovers in your life. Maybe the mk1?

Didnt get a great deal done today, as i had to repair my mates central locking on his, dare i say it, Kia Anyway, i did refit the refurbed filler neck.


And fit the Janspeed rear silencer i bought off LewisT. Pleased with how this looks.


More tomorrow.

Almost forgot, this beauty was parked at the side of my garage today. Absolutely immaculate and totally standard.

Bled the brakes today and fitted the passenger side front wing liner and the front anti-roll bar. Treated the main fuel pipes with rust eater and sprayed them with red oxide primer.


They were then sprayed with underseal once the primer had dried. Then fitted the new cam belt and alternator belt.


As the upper cam belt cover was rusty, i decided it was as good a time as any to clean it up, so it was wire brushed and primered with red oxide. Il spray it black before its refitted.


Really getting close to the finish now, theres still plenty of bits i want to do, but most of it is stuff that can be done when the cars on the road. Just before knocking off for today i thought id try the Corrado alloys i was thinking of running. Obviously they look a bit odd with the car stilll up on stands, but im liking the look of it. I can always put the castellettes back on it that DARE is wearing at the mo, but i do like the look of them on the GTS.





The centre caps need repainting, but otherwise theyre in great shape.
