your doing well mate. i would imagine with the age of the immob it will be either a single or double circit and i would hazard a guess and say if it is double the other is just a simple perm live ignition. Immob box will more than likely be in the dash somewhere as iirc the wiring seemed to run along the bulk head on the inside.

Yep its up under the dash, ive asked him to try and dig it out and send it across but its just another hold up really..

Tried to do some colour coding on the manifold this afternoon as the gasket had turned up...But its the lower gasket rather than the upper so ordered another (3rd time lucky!)
Anyway my coding turned into what you might call an epic fail...
How it was looking once masked and painted


Then i peeled back the masking tape and here was the result


The paint had got under the masking tape, the tape itself had peeled off some of the paint and there was overspray on the lower part!!

So as im out of paint now i have ordered some more black and will paint it over then using a brush this time will try and reapply some colour on to it!

Got a few more bits and bobs done this weekend with the help of Dom
We started on the steering rack gaitors and got those into place and fitted the track rod ends. We then put the new top mounts and coilovers on the front attaching the hubs, wishbones and anti roll bar too. Just waiting for my clamps from crazy quiffs then i can get that all attached up. A few of my old bolts will need replacing and i will need to get a few washers etc before everything is finally tightened up.



Also removed the old CV outer joint on one of the driveshafts and replaced it for a new one before rubbing the thing down and giving it a lick of paint. Will get the other side ordered this week





Also got my air filter which should make a nice noise. Its a fair bit smaller than the airbox for the ABF so should fit snugly


My 4 branch also turned up yesterday which i got second hand on ebay. Turns out it isnt actually stainless as advertised so this will be getting sent back which is a pain.

So now hoping to get the final few bits and bobs sorted on the suspension side of things and i can finally get some wheels back on her and take her off the axle stands. Then i can put the coilies on at the rear too

This week has been pretty quiet on the car front, my mate has been back from Australia so spending time with him has been a priority as he is off again next week. Have also been ill which doesnt help matters. The only good thing that has happened on the car front is that all the things i thought i would have trouble getting hold of have all materialised been purchased and arrived.

Firstly the chap i bought the engine off kindly dug out the immobiliser box and sender which is a massive problem overted



I had no problems getting a refund on a second hand manifold i had bought off ebay either, the seller had described it as stainless and it arrived rusty and in mild steel! Just when i thought i wouldnt find a good second hand one and would have to shell out £300 for one that may not be a great fit Boumsong came to the rescue with this lovely supersprint one



Also my 16v clocks arrived in great nick and only showing 69k which may confuse the MOT tester!



Im still waiting for my ARB clamps from crazy quiffs, has been nearly two weeks now so will get them chased up

So carrying a hangover this morning i walked in the house to find my anti roll bar brackets had been delivered, result i thought might get in the garage and get them fitted on. Compared to the old one's they are soo much nicer

Got one side on but then came across an issue on the other side. Can you tell what it is?!!

Yep i didnt put the anti roll bar on evenly, so annoyed about this as getting the anti roll bar back on was a pain so this will have to come off again. As i simply didnt have the energy for this i changed my other CV joint for a new one. Also offered up the new 4 branch and looks like it will fit snugly in there

Finished off the CV joints tonight by putting the jubilee clips on/scraping the skin off my hands!
If you pull on the end there is a bit of give only slight but its definitely there, should they be solid?



Also offered up the lower part of the 4 branch and its gonna be bloody close (if not touching) the UJ joint. Is this something to be worried about or shall i just wrap it with a load of heatwrap and hope for the best??



Also removed the anti roll bar this evening (again) but will wait to reattach this until i have another pair of hands, so here she is as she stands. I really really need to get the brake parts ordered from VW and then i can rebuild these and shouldnt be far off being able to put her back on to the floor

I found the easiest way to attach the ARB was to get it on the swing arms and mounted loosely, then swing it up onto the car body. That way it is centralised and just needs everything tightened up :)

With regards to the manifold touching the UJ on the steering, when I had it fitted I heat wrapped the UJ steering boot and that portion of the manifold. I think the biggest issue is it heating up and making all the grease run out of the boot or what ever, but with both parts wrapped it was fine, didn't melt the rubber or anything.

Yep i was thinking plenty of heatwrap should do the trick too!

Tonight after Mike H's helpful advice i managed to get the rocker cover off. Turned out there was two screws located under what i thought was a metal part of the cover. Turned out they were plastic grommets!!

As you can see it is flaking and lookng grotty so off it came for a lick of paint leaving the engine exposed

I gave it a good going over with the wire brush and was contemplating leaving it bare metal

In the end decided to stay true to form though and gave it a lick of the old black hammerite to keep it looking dark and moody like the rest of the engine bay!

There hasnt been much to report this week, paid a visit to the stealers to order a few washers, new gaskets and a few bolts that i will be needing, hopefully that will arrive tomorrow and i can look to get the car back on terra firma or at least get the brakes rebuilt. Also purchased stainless brake lines so hoping they will arrive tomorrow too. Been having a bad time on ebay too, i really want a set of BBS RM's but i keep getting outbid or missing out. I know they wont be cheap but people seem to be paying over the odds which im not prepared to do...May have to bite the bullet soon though

Had a good morning today, took delivery of brake lines, exhaust heatwrap and a lot of parts from the dealers.

Unfortunately the gasket they send me was completely wrong so that will have to go back. I did fit washers to the suspension strut and also replaced the washers and nuts on the bottom ball joints as the one's that came with the ball joint were very poorly manufactured
Now for the grand prix

Had a look at the brakes today, decided to split the psitons out the calipers and replace the dust seal and o ring thingy. Getting them apart was bad news for my thumb though. This is the first time i have split a piston out a caliper and to do so involves connecting a foot pump to the brake inlet line and pumping the piston out. However i didnt realise quite how much force it would explode out with and it squashed my thumb between it and the outer of the caliper.


Once out though i gave the piston a good clean up and these should be going back together tomorrow after work. Trouble is though the fluid in the brake lines has gone over my freshly painted calipers so may need to give them a touch up once i am finished. Also checked out my braided lines and it turns out that corrado G60 lines aren't the correct one's so i am going to take a trip to castle combe and ask the chaps at merlin to make me some up
