Its a metal water flange from the front of the block but as the breather that is under the flange has a block off on it so just need one without the bottom hose attachment. There must be somewhere that sells them but all I can find are ones for 16v

That flange looks familiar...I think the G60 has one. I'll have a look at the layout when I go put the cover on the car.

Loving the wheels by the way. Not many cars can get away with gold centres.

*edit*
Nah, the water flange on the G60 looks nothing like it...need to remember where I saw it!

Great thanks will have a google for g60 bits, Wheels don't look like that any more as they are more black than gold lol.

Started putting the block back together today.
Image
Head is just on for a mock up as I still need to do the valves n ports but is looking a million times better than when I started.
may paint the alternator tomorrow when I do the gear linkage and the rest of the other bits n pieces.

Ran into a problem with the polly bushes for the engine
Image
looks right apart from 2 extra bits on the bush that there isn't holes for on the rubber I think it may be a mk3 golf engine mount so I am undecided whether to get the poll for a mk3 or a new mount for a rocco.
Gearbox is painted so now realy need to get cracking with the bay so I can put it all back together again.

Poly is correct but there where two different styles of engine mount (ignoring the early mk1), one that matches up with your poly and yours that doesnt, think yours is the heavy duty one so shouldnt need the poly insert anyway

Can you not just use a blanking plug for the flange, that seems to be what VW does.

That looks like the plastic flange and would have to get new sensors to fit it, Also prefer metal as I have replaced the plastic one on the side a few times from it going brittle.
Gonna just try to tap the outlet ans put a bolt in till I find a new one if I cant find a g60 one that works

Well the car has been off the road for ages now when it was only ment to be for a couple of days. did manage to finaly get it running on Wednesday but it was running bad and on the test drive I wished I had remembered to tighten up the passenger side front wheel bolts when the wheel bounced over me and I ground to a halt on the disk.
Image
The wing is screwed, threads in the hub are knackered disk has a flat bit on it, someone ran over the wheel spacer and only found one shagged wheel bolt.
After a trip on a flatbed got the car home and had to use the engine crane to lift the car up so I could pull the disk and calliper off so the space saver would fit.
Image
Thursday I took a trip to GSF in Ipswich to pick up some parts. I turns out using the Rover disks is an even better value conversion as they are doing them for under £15 for a pair and a new hub was only £17 so I got off quite lightly as I thought my wallet was gonna take a pounding. It kinda did when I had to pay 20 quid for 8 wheel bolts at a local motor factors. I have a spare wing so will paint it up when I get a chance but till then I used the big hammer to straighten it out.
Today I got the new hub on and had a great idea for the spacers, I cut the bolt face/ Hat off the old disk and ground it smooth. Now I have 4 x 100 spacers with the locating screw hole so changing the wheels wont be such a pain in the arse. Will take some pics tomorrow when I do the other side and hopefully get it running better so I can start my new job on Monday

well luckily I was trying to find somewhere to stop to investigate the knocking when it fell off so got away with it.
The wing straitened out quite well and unless you look closely you can't tell its bent.
the poor running was down to the inlet manifold blowing but all sorted and pulls like a train now, Not sure if its the head rebuild freeing more power, black diamond clutch hooking it up better or all in my head from being stuck in the matiz for a month but I like it.
A word of warning to anyone looking to fit a heavy duty clutch this one is like an off and on switch, Loads of fun unless you are in traffic going up a hill so worth bearing this in mind if you are going to use the car daily.

I had the same problem and had to use spacers, Did try 3mm spacers but still caught on the calliper so put 8mm on and they were fine but get a bit of wobble between 65 and 80mph as they are not hub centric and putting wheels back on was a nightmare.
I ended up making spacers from the old disks the wobble is still there but putting wheels on is much easer.
cut the face off the old disk
Image
grind it flat (remember to sweep up the steel dust you make as my drive is a brown rust colour now)
Image
and you have 4x100 spacers that already have the holes to screw it to the hub with the disk.
wheel wise this is all the info off the wheels
Image
so looks like et is 24 but was going to run porsche wheels with adapters to stop the wobble as they need spacing may as well make it porsche.
all future plans for the car are on hold now as I need a new avant shaped diesel daily so the rock will get put away or sold if I cant find the space.

Well not posted on this for a while and I wish It was due to not having to work on the rock.
Fitted some FK hub-centric wheel spacers to the front to take care of the wobble in the wheel.
Head unit went pop so now running tunes from my n900 direct to the amp.
been plagued with oil leaks, dipstick guide tube and rocker cover(snapped stud) All fixed now got a mystery leak from the back of the engine- may be cv boot.
Got a new set of tires fitted, Went for 195 45 15 again but this time Yokohama S drive instead of Toyo as they are much easier to find at the mo. Grip is good as far as I can tell but turns out the dodgy handling wasn't just down to the tires as both top mounts are shot. They arrived today from GSF and £30 for the pair cant be bad.
Fixed sticking handbrake, accelerator and clutch cables with copious amounts of GT85 and lots of pulling back n forth.
found out the play in the gear leaver is nothing to do with worn bushes as its the relay shaft itself that is worn, Managed to bodge it a bit by wrapping it in electrical tape to get a tighter fit in the bushes. I ordered another one off ebay but when it arrived was no better so will have to try to find new or keep it bodged till I can do a motor/box swap at a later date.
fixed air leek on the manifold that was making the car over rev, the manifold needed taking back a bit where it fouled on the hot tuning header and the gasket needed trimming too but now it Idles great or at-least it does when it starts. Had to get the AA out on Tuesday due to it not firing up and draining the battery, turns out it wasn't holding amps and was only a year old but took it back to euro and even though I couldn't find the receipt they replaced it for free so well worth going for the Bosch in the first place. I will put it on in the morning to drive to the workshop but think it may be the fuel pump relay as well now cos whenever I jump the car the relay blows if I forget to swap it for a fused switch. Did check the ignition switch with a spare but didn't fix the starting issues so tomorrow all will be revealed with a mammoth rocco session and may even get the box and rear end painted for the bug if I get time.

Well I am no longer using the rocco as a daily as I have got myself a sensible ish car for work so the rock has been parked up outside the garage
getting in the way so I have decided as I don't have the time to work on it any more or the money to tax and insure 2 cars and build a race car it is time to move it on. When I get a chance I am going to go through the car and sort out all the little bits I have been putting off and go through both garages and get all the spares together that I have been stockpiling and put it up for sale as a whole.
If I could I would put it away until I had the time to go full on with a rebuild but that time may never come so will just find another rock when I can.
Until then this is the reason It has to go
