In a couple of weeks. Sold the last one yesterday.
OK, just ordered the 40 ltr pipe from you. Let me know when the hose is back in stock and will have one of those too.
Thanks again Tom.
Neck to tank pipes are back in stock mate
Cheers Tom! That was fast, added a bonnet liner set to the order too, the other thing it was missing aside from a radio..

Just realised I’ve ran out of jubilee clips for the pipes, ordered some more that should be with me Monday. Thought I had some. So may be delayed slightly.

Hi Tom,
New fuel pipe fitted and my garage now free of petrol fumes! The old tubing wasn't fuel proof...
Thanks again.

Hi,
Lovely car and great to see one in such fantastic original condition, I hope it remains like that ;)

Thanks very much, just had it on a rolling road tune as I was only getting 16 mpg. New webber carb not set up correctly when fitted I'm assuming. Now getting a healthy 32 mpg at the last check and a respectable 58 hp at the wheels which equates to about 72-73 hp at the flywheel. Almost the original 75 it came out with.
Rest assured it will remain as original as possible.

Evening gents & Lady,
I was sifting through box's of old photos this afternoon and came across this shot of my first Scirocco
JGE 600Y in Cosmos Blue, a GL Auto - of course! Sorry for the poor quality, photo of the photo...
Brought back some great memories, if anyone knows where she is please let me know!

When did you part company with the car? The chance of finding it doesn't look that hopeful, though it could yet turn up as a "barn find". The GOV road tax website says the tax ran out at the end of April 2000 and it's not been SORNed, which if the paperwork was completed correctly I think usually means it was scrapped, broken up or exported, but it could theoretically still be in the hands of a motor trader.

I sold it back to the garage I bought it from c. 1992 or 3 in Leicester. She was in superb condition at the time. Looking at the photo it is interesting (to me anyway) that this early 1982 model year lacks the plastic stone guards on the rear wheel arches... My 1983 model year GL Auto has them.
Apparently the DVLA should have been informed if any car is scrapped, I have checked with them and the last time the car changed hands was 11th November 1996. Not been registered as scrapped, stolen, exported or otherwise. As you say, she was still being MOT'd up until 2000.
She's out there somewhere! I feel like putting a reward out. ***WANTED*** £1000 for starters? Dead or alive...

Hi all,
Firstly, great website, lots of useful info!
Just purchased what appears to sadly be a rare model, an 83 GL Auto. This was my first car back in 1990, although that was a Cosmos Blue example with reg JGE 600Y (Glasgow) which fell off the radar back in 1998. I had it for three years and had to sell as the insurance went through the roof... If anyone knows what happened to her let me know.
Regretted selling ever since and been looking for years for this or one like it, and finally found JWC 56Y a couple of months ago. She is in astonishing original condition, Diamond Silver with just 48k on the clock. Rust free all but for a few stone chips. Looks like the hidden bits have been rust protected all over too.
Immaculate inside and I dare say in better nick than the one I had in 1990. A few bits to attend to, but all in hand. Just had a full service and MOT. Eventually passed after a fog lamp and break balance sorted out.
Anyway, look forward to posting if I have any sticking points.
Russ
This is a lovely car, its the same spec (GL, auto, single wiper) and colour as mine, although my version is a total dog with multiple issues and problems, and it's on an X plate
I hope to see this around one day as I'm over in Peterborough and occasionally venture over to Spalding.
Hi Mat
You up for a meet?
I get parole in 10 days!
Cheers
Russ

Been here for a while Dave. But thank you for the kind words.
Was hoping to put Gladys into the PC show after the 2020 S**t show that was covid cancelled... that said, been talking to my smart paint repair expert (who's brother may well have originally sold Gladys at VW's Bishop Stortfords branch), I know right, small world!
And he's agreed to attend mid / end March to get Glady's paintwork 100%. Which is what I've been aiming for. Not going to be cheep, c. £700-900 to sort out the bonnet, front valance, and rear swage line rust spiders that have appeared recently...
Seems these can be expected on cars of this age due to poor steelwork prep back in the day when it wasn't really known about.
Hey ho!
I'll get there. Means she's not 100% original paintwork, but it will mean she's 100% rust free which, in my book, is far more important. And the repair will still leave c. 80% paint still original...
Cheers
Russ
