I reckon the gold will look equally as cool... especially with the colour of the car
Re: About time i put a project thread together!!
Gonna give another vote for the gold, like the round lights doing the same with mine any chance of some close pics of how you mounted them?

Fitting the BMW lights was a right pain in the harris, but well worth the time and effort! I'll take some pics of the backing plates so you can see how to do it.Peaceman wrote:Gonna give another vote for the gold, like the round lights doing the same with mine any chance of some close pics of how you mounted them?
I've also got my hands on a pair of brand new clear front indicators

Regarding the wheels, i've changed my mind AGAIN lol... I've found another wheel made by Axis, but they're out of stock in the UK until next year
I think they'll look better than the mesh rims...

So in the meantime, i've bought a set of 1970's Lotus Elite 7x14" alloys

I've been doing a bit more on the GT2, and it's starting to look more like a car again
Just the roof and doors to paint now, and i can get the glass back in and the mechanical work underway...

I've also re-painted the black lines on the rear lights, which took ages to mask up!

Do like those Axis... then again, the Lotus wheels could work and everyone loves a retro wheel, not seen them before. We don't need a Harry Hill style fight or anything, just get them painted sharpish and lets see!!

No way, saw a Lotus or two on those at the Classic Car Show and thought they would suit a retro VW, was meaning to check the PCD to see if they would fit. Good work dudesnathe wrote:![]()

Hahaha... I've never seen a set on a Dub, which kinda made me grit my teeth and buy themRisocco wrote:

The PCD is 4x114.3 so will need adapters. £280 for a set of 4 from JDM Garage i think... I don't know the offset of the wheels yet, so will do some measuring when they arrive and work out if the 20mm adapters will fit without the rims poking too far. My 8x15 RS033's were et15, so with a 7x14 i should have plenty of room to play with!
With any luck i should receive them in 2-3 days. Will post pics!

This is coming on nicely!
Spotted the Axis' elsewhere and earmarked them without realising they were what you were looking at too! I don't think gold would suit my Silver paintwork so toying with the silver finish ones(maybe...) Damn like the other style ones you found too...
Cheers for the pics of the grill (looking forward to the E30 mod ones) You didn't have to chop the grill down then? I know a few others have.

Re: About time i put a project thread together!!
The only thing i had to do to the grill was trim off the row of clips under the bottom edge, as these were "just" visable due to me not running a front bumper. Pics are on their way of the BMW headlights, but the GT2 is currently tucked away under sheeting while i'm respraying the red Scala. As soon as i can pull all the sheeting off and take the lights apart i'll post pics asapPeaceman wrote:This is coming on nicely!

I think i'll be happy with the Lotus wheels done in Atlas grey for a short while. You can get Axis alloys from a couple of other places, but at greatly increased prices
I managed to find a few pics of some identical Lotus alloys that had been refurbed and fitted to a Mk1 Golf

Re: About time i put a project thread together!!
My arches have been fettled, but the fact i've ditched the kit and archliners has helped.
On the front, i just cut off the return lip. And folded the rear lips up with a panel hammer (thoroughly sealing them to prevent any chance of future corrosion.
I could fit et10 8x15 BBS RS's with 185/45x15's all the way into the rear arches at full travel, with no rubbing
The 8's also missed the front arches, but with quite a bit of camber! Lol
When i eventually get the 8x15 Axis rims, i'll have to use 10mm front and 15mm rear spacers to get them to sit the same as the BBS splits (see numerous pics ealier in the thread). Also... Running an 8" on the front, you NEED to run lower than et17-18, and run stretch on the tyre if you're low on coilies. The BBS's inner rim lip was 2mm under the adjusting ring on the coilover, which was also about 2 to 3mm off the tyre sidewall. Tight isn't the word
