Had a really good morning today...
I had stripped down the bumpers a few weeks ago and started the long awkward task of removing the bumper irons. After much a do the coach bolts gave in and i had them in bits. Wire bushing via a drill and every thing is squeeky clean. Today i at last got them all coated up in rust proofer,undercoat, and then black satin top coat...Look the nuts and it's going to be a shame ive got to cover them.

Then i turned my attension to the gear linkage setup. Again was stripped down awhile back cleaned via a wire brush. Again rust treatment, primer undercoat and then again a nice coat of satin black with some nice fresh bushes and stainless nuts n washers where needed...Bang tidy..

Other good job today ive done was clean up the fuel tank ready for treatment / painting. Oh and then while rumaging though and unknow box of bits while i was at my dads house i found a nice bosch fuel pump in fine working order dosnt look that old either !

Next in line is the rear beam,or maybe the front set up.
Either way i have to keep her a semi rolling shell as its back n forth to my dads garage for the welding, well more for the clean up of metal work..

little update..

Ive stripped down the rear beam and the wishbones removed bushes and carried out the necessary to tidy it all up... Now rebolted to the car and sitting
happy in satin black. Love the finish of satin way i see it is that they where never glossy from day one so why paint them gloss.

Ive also poly bushed the rear beam and wishbone's , which is fun as the vice is fooked now , and my friend who has a press is 10 miles away...Heyho



Soon as i work out how to upload pics from my iphone on to the photobucket account i'll add more

Ahh well now that im way over half way though the steering & suspension i thought i start on the wiring loom situ.
Theres a few extra wires added, ie one from the fuse box to the rear lights ! Anyway after around half hour of cutting and chasing its all out and im back
to basics, there where i wanna be...

After all that i got the bug to rig up a battery and see whats happening or not happening, bering in mind this car hasnt been live for around 10 yrs. So i know
theres going to be probs but i wasnt expecting these results....

First off start with the easy stuff rear lights, simple couse the loom is easy, plug and 1 end spades at the other.....
check it out...


next i tried the indicators but that was a no no so hazard switch....fantastic...


Ah lets see if i can bypass the brake light switch.. woohoo


And all together please....thank you...


and reg plate lights please


I cant get the reverse lights to work couse i cant work it out on the loom where there ment to be..

So with that all sorted and me being ataken back i turned my attension to the front lot...
After a quick twist of a couple of broken wires it was time to plug in the indicators and headlamps.

you cant see that well but there flashing

next up was the headlamps which are giving me a little bit of grief. Seem to have high beam just on the inner lamps and just sides on the outter lamps
i think it might be due to a bad earth or a faulty switch couse the high beam doesnt hold on. Anyway...



Was still pleased with the out come after all some of these wires feel very brittal and i now theres a number of earths missing.
Even the heater motor spun up on all 3 settings, along with the clock which ticked. Dashwise tho the battery light doesnt come on as well as handbrake light
but the temp light flashes....
Best of all tho, i walked off for 5mins to have a think and returned to the car to notice this the clincher of the day that gave me a huge smile



Ive still got to check rear wiper washer, front wiper washer but at the moment there the least of the problems...Still way happy with that so far, as i thinking
for big things engine wise.....

Electrics are here to make us older.

On anther subject noticed you painting a load of parts. If you want them powder coating dirt cheap let me know.

Inner lamps are just high beam and outer lamps are dip beam (both have the single filament H1 bulbs) with a sidelight bulb. Outer lamps remain on, on both dip and main, but the inners only come on, on main.

this afternoon i hit the fuel tank with a wire brush on a drill and some scrappers. After around half hour all the underseal was removed.
Next up was rust treatment nice heavy coat applied....

Ive also be building up a audi ACE engine for it. Was given the bottom end on the asumpsion it was knocking. So without taking a chances ive fitted new new
shells and bearing checked for excessive piston movement etc.
Again i managed to hit it this afternoon with the drill and get 2 coats of rust treatment on it..

Problem im finding is i keep forgeting to take pics, or my hand are covered in oil and grease....

Mangaged to get the fuel tank in undercoat after work today..Bit of luck top coat will be applied over the weekend to it and the straps.
Another job ticked off..

you don't need to rush that decision, it's something you can always add to the finished item...

Yay managed to get the fuel tank and heat sheild it top coat after work today.
Looking very black and glossy tho. Forgot i was ment to be using satin..

Yeah its a 1981 mk1 golf driver in orange under the green and dust. Its a 1.3 with the same dash as the mk1 rocco. My brother dug it out of his garage where its been hiding for 5 years. Doesnt have a clue what to do with it tho....
