If you are serious about doing welding this is a good website which has links to some car body repairs..
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/
There are loads of other sites if you have a good look, some amazing skills where people have made their own parts. Takes a lot of skill but you've got to start somewhere.

I have rust like this on my car :dash: I am going to fabricate pieces rather than try and replace entire arches. Not had a chance to start working on it but this is what I have removed ready for some work bearing in mind I am keeping my body kit so I am not looking for show quality..

Very nice, at the moment i am still stripping down the car do bare metal and then i will get a mask and welder out, ive done 3 types of welding on a demo mechanics course a few years back which lasted a week, we got to weld, take apart an engine and rebuilt it and set the timing up on it with the strobe thing and correct spark plug gaps. It being only 2 days me spending time on the car is getting me more and more excited every time i go away and find new stuff to do or buy for the car. Of course considering i have to be careful with my budget and the time oh the TIME :wakey: . thanks for the link MacColl thats really helpful mate, good luck on your bit aswell, let us know how you get on.

If you do want repair panels then Joost could well be your man assuming he still has some of these or can get additional stock …

These were the ones I bought for my old GT when it was being restored a couple of years back. You might also find the photos and comments in my resto thread of some interest. The fun starts half way down this page ...

Just don’t ask me any technical questions as I wasn’t doing the work!

Nice project, thats some pretty brave resto going on there considering your saying your just learning.

Just a quick note, the thing you were referring to as a fuel filter that lives next to the fuel pump is the fuel accumulator. Just thought I would let you know incase you accidentally threw it away thinking it was just a filter (its over £100 new).

For a nice explanation of the fuel system see

http://www.diagnostic-assistance.co.uk/mech_inj.htm

Good luck with it.

Thanks, i am very hands on and will try anything, like getting stuck in, but dont worry i am keeping everything, so i can get a exact replacement if needed. i am a being believer in research so i will go away and read about thoroughly before making a decision. it is awesome how much info you can find on these forums let alone Google. will keep you posted. do work back on car tomorrow and cant wait :yahoo: , i ve found awesome pics of modified Rocco's :vcool: and different things people have tried which has given me alot of ideas  . Firstly lets get this beast stripped down to chassis and find what need repairing and replacing.

Here is what has caught my eye!!!

There are a couple of Rieger kitted Mk2s on the Register. Mean as hell, but fairly rare.

As for the kits, they're very expensive. Time to break open the piggy bank! Check out pages 412 and 413 ...

hey thanks, i really like the Rieger Breitbau 2 Evolution Kit, More precisely the rear wheel arches only, but i certainly like the Ferrari kit aswell but it is £2486  , i would like to fabricate my own really and see what i could come up with that would be an interesting experiment, but thats time and money which alot of us dont have so i am just gonna keep it down to earth. Anyway its not like it helps performance wise, my idea currently is to get mine up and running original but not put alot of stuff back on. Its not like iam going to be carting 5 people in it, just use it for a bit of fun then when iam done just restore the rest for storage and the odd cruise. :vcool:

Judging by the amount of body rot in the photos I think you have taken on a mammoth task. Good luck to you Delraj

I that's some bad rust round the rear beam mounts :shocking: afraid to say almost the worst I've seen. There doesn't seem to be any consistency with how 80 vw's rust :dunno:

Going to need some expertise to get that welded up safe. It can be done though, if you have a good overall search of various forums you will likely find some MK1 Golfs which have had to have similar work as they have exactly the same running gear.

Oh Great :crying: , thats given me great confidence, well to be honest i know it was bad from the outset bearing in mind its be sat outside in the GREAT British weather for around 1460 days or roughly 4 years, regardless how bad i am determined to save this Rocco because its a Storm. The breifly scimmed the welding website and that has great trips but at my uncles garage i think they will have people in mind to help with the welding etc... though i will give it a bash myself.
