cheers. it's starting to dawn on me that i still have a lot of work ahead of me to get it back on the road. just trying to find missing or broken parts is proving impossible and most are so small people aren't fussed about selling them except for over-inflated prices. bit by bit, keep chipping away. My plan is to get it mot'ed in april which is not really that long away but i expect it will go back together fairly quickly once i get her home.

I was thinking deep bronze wheels, i am now thinking cream....

i've just been on vwheritage and they literally have everything!! why am i paying £15 for secondhand parts when they are on there brand new for £20. all my worldly problems are solved....

sometimes its almost easier to replace a full panel than patch one up! you'll be fine, you just need to find one thats had a front end smash!

so i've been getting distracted by stuff that really isn't important yet, but i've been thinking about my wheels and what i am going to do with them. I have owned them for years and not ever seen another set the same so want to keep them. They are made by Aluline and are 15x7. here they are in all there tired glory with 195/45's. I will be swapping the tyres to 175/50's to make a bit more clearance too.



they originally had a flat plate centre with a big nut on it like borbet a's do. Borbet also have a flat disc version which i much prefer.

So i decided to draw up my own version to get fabricated using their original branding. The first quote back is for £100 for all 4, delivered, which seems pretty good to me. I can buy just plain discs for £40 and drill them mself, but the text makes it look original in my eyes. It is also inspired by the P-slot centres



i've also had a quote to have them sand blasted, repaired and powdercoated for £240 which again seems pretty fair. at the moment i am now leaning towards RAL 1014 (or ivory) as these wheels.



I am pretty keen on the cream idea but will buy a cheap rattle can and spray them to check before forking out.

Having said all that, i do quite like them without the centres covered....

RAL1014 looked too yellow, but i think this shade would work....its just an off white / cream

so collected the car on saturday.







back home



had a few hours on saturday so spent ages alligning the wings, bonnet and doors. pretty pleased with the outcome, also waxoyled inside all the panels where you can't get to mormally.





and today i had a few more hours so fitted bodykit, exhaust, rear bumper and tailights. the black thing behind the number plate has had it and i can't really see what its purpose is so may just stick the number plate to the metal.

also bodykit was a pain as i have done so many repairs that around 8 holes weren't there and had to be drilled.



started getting dark, but kit is on and more undderseal applied





packed up, had a shower and got bored so fitted the headlining. its not perfect but i am happy with it seeing as it cost me about £25 and is homemade

Good progress over the weekend, don't forget to paint/treat the extra holes you had to drill to fit the body kit or it will start to rust again in no time.

no worries, i'll keep updating as long as people are reading. i have given all the holes a spray of high zinc paint and waxoyl so should be fine . just ordered loads of bits from classic-vw so i can keep going, clips, seals etc. next job is to install the a and b pillar leatherette (in brown) and then I can fit the glass.

sandblasting media turned up today too so can start cleaning the little bits and painting.

I am a bit concerned that i have given myself until march to rebuild the car and at this rate it will be done in a month!

so i have decided to get the car built, then take the engine out to rebuild it and respray the engine bay. I'll also send the head off to these guys and will get whatever they advise. He's on other forums and knows loads about engines. i have a 2L with 4 branch, cams, vernier pulleys, match ported head and intake, large TB with inlet matchported and filter so head work seems the next logical step.
