Glad to see the welding tip idea has been a hit, certainly worked for me. As to the fuel pump, make sure you get the correct one. Think I posted in this thread early on that I replaced mine & found that the one that was fitted was completely different. The main feed line to the carb was smaller diameter compaired to the new pump I got. Not a clue what engine it was for, but no way it was for a 1.8. I would stay mechanical too, trying to get an electric fuel pump to regulate for a carb could be a bit tricky. I looked into it & decided to stay mechanical just for that reason.

I've not had any fuelling issues since I carried out the mods mentioned earlier in the thread.

yeah ive just this min ordered a new mechanical fuel pump off heritage. so should be in my hands tomorrow. my mate is adimant its just the lift pum thats cauding me the problems ive got. but after removing the old in line filter in the engine bay and seeing loads of debris and tiny deposits of rust surely it would be worth checking inside the tank if theres any debris or rust in there.

the fillerneck is 100% rust free and so are the metal fuel lines. ive changed all the 6mm and 8mm fuel hoses inbthe engine bay so there all clean just need to get a y connector and this infamous 0.8 wealding tip. so hopfully no more cycling to work in the rain
