rocco brake upgrade 256mm, (hope this will help)

hi all, well everybody thats ever wanted to upgrade the brakes on there mk2 rocco knows what a headache it can be (me included) well i have a solution for you that does'nt involve spacers or audi's, after months of trying to get 256's on my mk2 i was scrolling through ebay when i came across an advert for an upgrade (which i bought) the lad was claiming that vauxhall tigra calipers would bolt directly on no probs, i was'nt sure as i'd never heard this before but i took a chance and bought them, he assured me he'd had them on his rocco, when they arrived i went straight into the garage and got stuck in and to my amazement a direct fit

so there you go, if your after a 256mm upgrade without hassle it's tigra caliper.

you will need the tigra flexi's and slightly longer caliper bolts.
not sure what model tigra there off though but i hope this helps

if memory serves, the tigra was based on the corsa platform, so the sportier late 90s corsas might also be another source of these calipers, and probably similar vintage astras may have the same.

sorry i'm not sure of the make of the calipers but you could have a point about the corsa and i'm sure i read some where it was possible to fit the 16v astra gte calipers (dont quote me on that) so you could be right.

nice one, i hope i've been a help to to people, like i say i have been wanting to upgrade mine for ages and the tigra one's bolted straight on, you just need slighty longer bolts (which i paid 2 quid for new, and the tigra flexi's as they bolt to the caliper diffrently, luckily mine came with them, i'll try to get more info and get back to you.

astra/corsa/tigra discs should fit too. same pcd and centre bore is only 0.5mm different

ive got a set of 256mm brakes from a vauxhall to go on my mk1 golf but just got a rocco so i may fit them to this

out of intrest what master cylinder and servo do the roccos use

i have a spare mk2 golf 16v servo and master floating around, comon upgrade on mk1 golfs, is it the same for the rocco

my brakes need a deff upgrade

I'm reading this with great interest as it looks like a great conversion. But why don't people use the conversion brackets from TSR that move the standard caliper away from the hub enough to fit either 270mm or 285mm discs, surely easier & cheaper going by the price of discs. the 270mm will still allow the 14" wheels to fit or you can go for the 285mm but have to go up to a 15" wheel. I work with a guy that has used the adaptor brackets on his MK1 Golf for years with no problems. This conversion alone would see a massive improvement in the braking abilities & that's eithout changing the servo. Would be interested in hearing any thoughts on this.

Surely if you are using the standard calipers and pads you will in theory only be getting the same contact area as with standard discs. Yes it will be an improvement due to it having more leverage being further away from the centre, but you are not using the full surface of the disc and therefore not getting the most out of the upgrade.

Might be wrong of course but that's how I'd look at it.

when you say longer bolts do you need fatter ones too? im in the middle of doing this conversion i have the old astra bolts which are longer but have a fatter thread on them so can not be wound into the hub. i can use the original bolts from the vw tho they do go through the caliper carrier but they are thinner so its hard too get them to align properly against the disc. im guessing there are 2 ways to sort this. 1. drill new threads into the hub to allow astra bolts to fit. 2. try and track down a bolt with the same size thread but with a shank init to allow it to be fatter. just wondering how you got round this?

If not then will 14" P slots work?
