Anyone have a DX cam to hand...need a check!

Post by liam »

Hello all

Right...Ive been sold a "DX" cam for my EX 1.8 carb.

Currently I have taken the rocker cover off my car and have a view of its current cam.

Now in a hydraulic DX cam what should the number inprinted on top of the cam read...because at the moment the two cams read the same from what I can see!

The "DX" cam ive aquired has " L WWO 026 91 " inprinted on the top and " L VW Logo 8a " imprinted on the underside.

Im thinking either my EX already has a DX cam on it or that ive been sold a EX cam.

Is it safe for me to roll the car forward in gear, rotate the cam and check the underside of my current cam for the 2nd reference number.

The cam belt is still attached btw

Thanks for the input

Liam

Take it out of gear
Remove the spark plugs to stop the compression
19mm socket on the crank bolt and rotate the engine clockwise from there

Ben.

The cam on the rocco is a 9C so it seems they are different.

Ive decided to leave the swap till i can do it with my family mechanic...aint got time to sort a blown engine if I cock up the timing marks etc

Replacing the blown speedo light was enough of a misson for one day....it still dont even work! Although in true Baldrick style I have an idea

Well my mechanic measured them both with calipers and says they are exactly the same!

Good way to waste my cash
