weber carb ,hunting / nearly cutting out

Post by LEEP »

Hey up peeps
Not been on for a while ,due to work etc
Just a quick one ,my 1.6 gt as started playing up a little the other day coming home from work ,everytime I went to stop it went to cut out ,so pull choke out and all was good just hunting a lot ,so today I have took carb off clean the inside etc was going ti put a new mount on as I brought one but the old one was all ok so put it all back ,replace all vacum pipes etc ,replaced inline fuel filter ,swapped plugs and leads ,but its still doing it I have got it to not cut out now ,put it still sounds and looks like its running a bit ruff ,and there a little smoke white when I rev ,not a lot but I don't know if that's because its overfuel in am good at setting up etc by my ear ,it drives spot on when am driving ,

Does it do it all the time, or just when it's been running for a while?

Cold damp autumn days are the start of the carb icing season.

Have you checked if the idle jets are clear and not blocked?

possibly just wants setting up properly, may want a diaphragm replacing. (not poked about with one of those carbs for ages) if he is still going, check out a guy trading as "motordoc" from bingley. he does that sort of thing fixed price labour + parts. when i last used him (probably about 8 years ago) it was £75 regardless of how long it took him. he did a passat for me that i just couldn't get running. took 2 days, no extra labour (he does it to get away from his wife i think!)

might have paked up by now, as he was knocking on a bit
