Fuel Pump problems
Hi all, bought a scala as a non runner have replaced the pump relay, and no pump prime or fuel getting to the filter. Guy said it ran 2 years ago, will start with started spray. What is the best way to check the pumps to see which one could be the problem

Re: Fuel Pump problems
Remove the fuel pump relay and bridge the two big connections to make the main pump run.
The in tank one I have no idea about making it run other than a live wire straight to it. Its under the cover in the back seat.

Re: Fuel Pump problems
Obvious I know but be bloody careful running a live wire to the in tank pump, petrol+sparks=
Best to remove from the car and test on a bench.

Re: Fuel Pump problems
I'd be getting a multimeter out first. The power for the pumps also goes round the inlet manifold to all the idle control switches and valves. If one has failed it could be shorting the +ive out etc.
Of course, it could also be the fault of the ignition switch, fuse box....

Re: Fuel Pump problems
You wouldnt need to remove the cover on the tank to test the in tank pump so there will be no fuel vapour. But yeh a multimeter would be better.

Re: Fuel Pump problems
Check that the fuse is getting power. I suffered this problem due to water getting at the fusebox which resulted in the fuse not connecting on it's lower (feed) terminal, cleaning the terminal on the fuse produced a temporary result. You can test fuses for power with a bulb and wire (or a multimeter) as the terminals protrude slightly on the outside.
Re: Fuel Pump problems
Update have bridged the pumps and they seem to be running, however put 5 liters of fuel in the tank, and did not start, will plutter and run for 20 secs then nothing, have pulled of the main feed from the tank and is jut pumping air, next step today is pull out the lift pump and check the tank, is the external pump suppose to make a racket ?

Re: Fuel Pump problems
It will if it's only getting air, and then it'll burn out.rusty2 wrote:is the external pump suppose to make a racket ?
If the in tank lift pump is running, but not pumping fuel you'll need to remove it and check that it's submerged. Could be the rubber hose has become detached from the pump itself or blocked somehow.

Re: Fuel Pump problems
Have you checked the airflow sensor, ie, does it move freely or is it stuck
If it is not broken, Do not fix it !!!
Re: Fuel Pump problems
Completly stripped and cleaned the air sensor was always movin freely
, and all the injectors, still only running for a few secs then nothing, completly stumped

Re: Fuel Pump problems
