Removing discs

Hey all, Im fitting new discs and brake pads, I got the calipers off but theres one screw which is holding the disc on but the screw head is mashed up and no matter I try it will not move. Any suggestions on getting the screw out or the disc off another way? Cheers all...Rich

drill it out then use an easy out to remove the screw

but firstly i'd try smacking a screwdriver into it with a big hammer, see if it free's it up at all and helps it budge.

if all else fails, wheels back on, pop down garage. get someone there to remove it :)

If you have any socket drive torx bits, you could try hammering one into the screw head.

Im a bit limited on tools. I'll try drilling it out when the bloody rain stops.

Impact wrench? Worked for me once, since then I put a bit off copper grease on the threads when fitting new disc.

Just drill out the tapered head with a drill the same size as the screw head leaving the screw threaded portion in place, the disc will slide off over the remaining screw as it is not threaded into the disc just the back plate. Then when the disc is off use mole grips on the bit of the screw left sticking out. Put some copper grease on the new screw when fitting and nip up. It doesn't need to be mega tight as the wheel bolts do most of the tightening of the disc when refitted.

The screw is only there to hold the disc in place once the wheel is removed.

I drilled the screw out and fitted a new screw. The other side came out really easy. Job done, Cheers all...Rich

Try centre punching near the edge, then driving it round with that.
Otherwise, just drill the head off (or massacre it with the grinder - you're changing the disc anyway, so no issue if you mangle a bit of it!) once the head's off, and the disc's off, the stub usually comes out easily.

Best tip I can give you is to use stainless screws when re-fitting!
