Right I appreciate it will look like I have not done a great deal but, when you are a serious fanny like myself, these things take time

The spoiler had do go on first which meant waiting for self-adhesive foam tape which went between it and the body, and of course stainless steel self tapping screws captive in number plate (black) thingy's


Then it was the bumper: Mounting brackets shot-blasted, 3 coats of zinc rich primer followed by 3 coats of satin black smoothrite and a final coat of waxoil. Waxoils sprayed down the chassis rails before also.
I really need to get my head around doing 'before and after shots'. The bumper looked dreadfull. Stripped it all of previous 30 odd years of whatever with methylated spirit and white spirit. Then, (it took me some time to grow a set of....... nads) power level 3 on a Bosch Heat Gun and held very close followed by of course Auto Glym's finest - very happy with it indeed.


Topped off with a new number plate plinth C/O VW Classic Parts

This week I've been rebuilding the drivers door, again it looks like slow progress but, the work that has gone towards

The internal stiffner which seperates the two bits of glass, yeah, shot blasted and loads of paint - same with the rear runner.
The "Chrome trim" - well it was not looking good, rubbed off scratched etc - so I had one option. I polished the Aluminium base using 1200 grade wet & dry followed by Scotch-Bright pads and loads of Autosol, then wiped with thinners and spray painted with many coats of laquer QUICKLY to avoid any oxidising.

The Leather is original circa 1980! just Auto Glym'd - goes to show its longevity

If you've been lying on your back for the last two days, knuckles gone, covered in brake fluid and petrol.

Strangely I'm still enjoying it!

Phew, for a few moments of late I've been asking myself: 'am I missing the whole plot?
Particularly when it comes to achieving some sort of goal.

A quick trip over to the Isle of Man for the TT soon put things into perspective, What some men will do..

Gravity Valve rebuild - not to be seen again.

So it was looking very scruffy

The mounting bracket was pretty awfull

Fabricated a new one out of Stainless
New silicone vent pipes and a bit of a clean up






Foam tape between the plastic covering trim and body to prevent water/crud ingress.


When I say not to be seen again? similar to other stuff I've done, If you enjoy doing it - why cut corners?

Ruddy Heck! I had to flick through 3 pages to find my thread - it's been that long

Not a week goes by when I do nothing on the Storm, but progress has not exactly been worthy of updates.Lot's of things have slowed the job up, mainly it could have been sorta ready for the Autumn - not good for a Mk 1!!

I'm now hoping to have it on the road for my fortieth birthday spring next year - I will have then owned it 19 years!

One of the BIG obstacles has been the Dashboard, mine was a terrible mess and pretty much beyond repair. I had seriously toyed with the idea with sending it off to 'Just Dashes' in the States for a refurb $$$$$$$$.

I went global and put my angst on Vortex, and, Polov 8 came to my rescue - Andy you are a star!

Craig, I'd seen some photo's that Grant (Dingrocco) had posted on Vortex of a visit of his to Blighty and Andy, and I thought: 'hang on a minute that looks familiar, it takes me back to late summer 2006 and Donnington'. Yes, that long ago! so when I first contacted Andy I said we'd met before and off course he remembered

I visited last Saturday and we talked solid Mk1 rubbish for a good couple of hours Craig give me a call anytime would be good to catch up - although Sunday would be good for me.

I hit a rich seam of productivity today!!!

I had a bit of a mare fitting this, I think it was due to the fact I was using new NOS rubber. I fitted the window with trim then had to take it back out to get the 'Boomerang trim' on Jeez I sweared! A heluva lot

The weekend has been all about spraying the metal that meet's the parcel shelf, it was all scratched and rough, yes a job that should have been done at the bodyshop but I forgot to ask. Paints 4 U, expensive, yet miles better than the turd you get from your local - the carpet trim that sits above has gone to a local Upholsterer for new 'Edging'.

I'm on a bit of a mission to rid my car of all self-tappers -so here you go M6 Stainless for the rear screen wash tank.
Never to be seen again!


Yeah even the fuel tank sender cover plate was shot-blasted and zinced and painted


Rear Seat is now in! - I might doss down on it tonight!

Yeah if someone says I've plagiarized from elswhere (I saw it on Vortex - the 'I hate money thread')
It was a corner I could of cut but I'm happy with the way it has turned out and I at least think the front mount of the seat will look good coming out of the carpet.





The paint from Paints 4 U is an excellent product.
Received a replacement steering wheel on Friday (cheers Craig) by all accounts it originated from Ryan's Blue Storm (mine had lost its leather wrap a long time ago)
I'm hoping to get the Newton Commecial under-floor kit in at the weekend and then carpet and front seats
