G60MAT wrote:Well the carb is back, all cleaned up looks like it was sticking somewhat on the acceleration pump, bolted it back on and followed the photos that all is back on in the right order. Fired up the car and its clear there is now no spark... :dash:

Now plan to go back to basics tomorrow and borrow an avometer to check everything out... :dunno:
Have you cleaned and gapped the points ? That's interesting about the carb bet mine has the same problem as it has been stood for years.

I better order up a gasket as they take so long to arrive !!

OK, had another blast on the car, it now has new: Disi Cap, Rotor Arm, Plug Leads, Plugs and Coil, even tried the AccuSpark electronic ignition kit. http://www.accuspark.co.uk
rather than the condenser etc.

Checked everything with the volt meter and we have power getting through, but clearly no spark but can't work out why? :dash:

Any ideas? :beg:

Would have thought the car would still fire, even if it ran rough?

Given up for today, now thinking it must be something in the wiring between the coil and the dizzy as we can see current at the coil but still no spark.

Pretty much runs out of ideas (and skills) so think the best best best is to get an auto electrician and take it from there...

When it's properly dead, the car won't start at all (I know from experience).

Ok, had another go at the the car tonight with scene legend and all round good guy Jay Renshaw (he of TT dash in Corrado fame) and went through everything again and although there is a spark its very weak, but were still not really sure why!

The rotar arm looks a little loose and fits the old cap better than the new, but the electrics look ok, and all the items changed seems to make sense and be in order, gonna get a new arm, and new condensor by removing the AccuSpark electronic ignition for now.

The car then start to leak fuel on one of the rubber fuel line connections (will pick up some new ones tomorrow) so we gave up for today rather than light up the garage! :hehe:

So some further reading and scratching of heads really... :dash:

I do really feel for you Mat. It reminds me of trying to get my 1.8 K-jet running for edition 2010. A year later I found out it was out of fuel :hehe:

Im sure jay will get to the bottom of your problems. It will be something stupid!! :dash:

Cheers Winston, yeah i'm sure it will get sorted, there's no rush, but I'm bored of it dragging on now, however hopefully Jay and I can have another stab and get it running!

In other news I had the car accepted for VWNW at Tatton yesterday and would like to take it to the Detailed show at the end of July, so it better run by then! :beg:

New rubber overbraid cotton fuel hose purchased today so should be here in a couple of days, then try again! :good:

Way, way too many important things you have changed all at once - what if one component was faulty? :shocking:
You have a 'carb' car which is no way 'Rocket Science' at all compared to modern stuff.

Example: my car has been in pieces for months, tank off, fuel pipes off, earths off, engine wiring off. All K jet with a few more parimeters than a carb car!
Hooked it up tonight and it fired (run) without the whole air intake connected :shocking:
The gasket that you waited so patiently for: I spent hours cutting one out of a piece of cardboard with a scalpel for my old GLS, it ran for a few weeks.
Fuel Hose? Gasket? Ignition Amplifiers?

Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow. The Internal Combustion Engine holds no secrets.

New fuel lines arrived this week, so gonna refresh everything following the fuel leak, old ones look pretty tired and dried out, will also pick up a new condensor and rotar then another session to fit and try again... :dunno:
