Idiot question alert Re headlight warning buz - please help.

Post by Sean »

OK, so I'm a nightmare for leaving my lights on - so I bought one of these.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-headlight ... 2c565ed7c7

Not wanting to cut/splice/fanny about with my fusebox, I then bought these.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Add-Circuit ... 27bf1644ed

So, instruction on the buzzer says connect red wire to headlight fuse and connect black wire to ignition fuse.

I've connected black wire to the same fuse (No.3) that holds CD player, cigarette lighter etc as they're on a permanent live, and I've connected the red wire to the same fuse (No.22) that holds Low beam right. Note: There aren't fuses that simply say "Headlight" and "Ignition".

NOTHING!

What have I done wrong?

so has it just got 2 wires, a black one and a red one? connecting both of them to the fusebox will give it 2 live feeds but no earth, so it ain't gonna work.

assuming it is just a 12V buzzer, then all it needs to make a noise is connecting to 1 live and one earth. i would do this by taking a live feed from the sidelights (or dash lighting) and the switched earth from the drivers door switch.

door shut and lights on means its got no earth and won't sound
door open and lights off means its got no live and won't sound
door open and lights on gives you power and earth = buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

For me, it's not worth the hassle if I have to be cutting and splicing and attaching. I certainly aint stripping down doors/switches/looms to take a live feed from anywhere. I'm really not interested in doing that. Just a simple plug and play is what I'm after.

Just doing some research, it seems some people have fitted a relay (number 292) to their fusebox, swapped relay No.19 for a relay No.99 an voila. Seems to be a golf mod, but anyone heard of this and know if this is an option on the rocco?

We had a long chat about it here:

http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carf ... r&start=45

And I installed one with these results
DT1 wrote:Relay 292 works on my '89 Scala i but with some provisos:

1. It is not a 'nice' sound, it is a very discordant, high pitched buzz;
2. It works when the lights are on but the ignition is off, which isn't how most work. I only want it to work if the lights are on and I open the door;
3. And by far the biggest problem, the fog lights don't work (out of interest did those who said that this worked check their fog lights after installing it?).

Not a very successful purchase. :(

I'll go and buy 2 sets of buzzers and diodes and make some I think.

swapping 19 for a 99 gives you programmable intermittant, and yes it does work. keep watching on the for sale board, i do put these up for sale every now and then
