Yes, if you were to just change the servo and master cylinder it would improve the brake feel and pedal power. But all a servo larger does is amplify the pressure in the brake fluid, and the resulting 'grip' on the disc.

The servo and master cylinder are most commonly from a mk2 16v golf. you can get these parts new, aftermarket or second hand. The mk2 servo is 9" diameter, the master cylinder is 22.6mm. Theres very often setups for sale on mk1golf.org.

If you have an 8v gti, your disc diameter will be 239mm. If you were to take 16v discs and calipers, you would be using 256mm. But if youre going to upgrade the discs and calipers, G60's are the biggest OEM upgrade at 280mm. The increase in radius give you additonal leverage on the wheel. (i'm not familiar with later mk3/4 brakes, you have options there too)

However you will need:
- carriers to suit your hubs
(g60's need custom made adapters, http://www.sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/ ... 10&t=10560)
- discs and pads for the new brake setup
- goodrich braided hoses will further improve brake feel
- calipers

It doesnt have to be expensive, I think you could do the lot for less than £150. I'd overhaul the rear brakes at the same time, drums are good when set up well.

Maybe do the servo upgrade first and see how you get on! I think brakes make a car, my leon cupra r wouldnt be half as fun without the brembos! (discs and pads dues soon £ :shocking: )
So many plans, so little time
