Mk2 Rear Wheel Arch Repair Sections?

Post by katemate »

Hi guys.
My Mk2 Storm is looking and feeling a bit old now. I was thinking of selling, but can't face doing that it seems.
One of the things I want to sort first are the rear outer wheel arches (the metal bits), they feel very fragile under the bodykit arch trims, and so it looks like is time to replace them.
Got a copy of the VW EPC on my PC, but wheel arch sections are not shown separately, just full rear quarters.
I've been reading older posts, and saw mention of repair kits possibly being available from ATP Autoteile in Germany. I found their website, but Google can't translate it. I couldn't guess my way round the site in German, so I've emailed them in the hope someone there can read English well enough to answer my questions.
Has anyone managed to get hold of these replacement arches, from there or anywhere else? I see VW Heritage only offer Mk1 replacement arches. Can't find websites for Veng and Pop-On etc to see if they do them.
Then I have to decide on how much of a job to make of it - quick repair or better job.
Any answers/advice would be appreciated.
Apologies if this has already been covered extensively, but I didn't find it when searching the forum.
Cheers.

I got a set of repair panels from MarkyMark, but they were originally being sold through the Register by Joost aka Blueshark … worth making the point though that it was a friend of Joost and not Joost himself that had them made for sale.

Check out his old Rear Wheel Arches thread and drop him a PM. Not certain they'll have any availble right now, but worth a try. I can vouch for the quality as they were excellent and I know other people have been equally impressed ...

Folks have different views on how much of the panels to use, but if you look here at Page 5 of my restoartion thread for Project Poppy hen you'll see what we did with ours ...

Also worth pointing out that it is possible to do a repair on the rear arches using sections from a set of spare front wings. Check out this guide from the FAQ section as produced by markh for more info ...

Thank you Cpt Custom - I have emailed Joost, and fingers crossed there will still be some available.

If you don't get any joy there and you don't fancy trying to create your own (as per the FAQ link above) there are a couple of guys on here who may well be willing to do the work for you.

Might be unfair of me to name names just in case they've got other commitments, but I'm sure if you shout up they may well step forward.

:beers:
