Scirocco Scala D308 FPY BBS RS content

Post by tdi_phil »

Hello ScirccoRegister,

I've been lurking around on here since the beginning of the year when i took the plunge into rocco ownership after owning 5 mk2 Golfs (still love the golf and no doubt will have another soon enough.

Anyway not even 24hr after owning this mk2 golf GTI, me being the 3rd owner and with only 47k on the clock all backed up.....

Image

.... I got a call from a friend with a number (i thought he'd never produced) to call a guy about a scirocco he had for sale.

I gave the guy a call and within 30minutes i was at his door to check out this (supposedly mint) scirocco.

this is were its lived since 1997 after someone reversed into her in asda car park (hence the smashed indicator)

Image

so after paying the guy i needed a bit of help getting it to its new home

and some overall pics

genuine and all backed up

now with it not being started for a couple of years im gunna need to give it a full flush through and a nice fresh drink of fuel.

With it not moving from the spot since 1997 the tyres and all rubber belts need replacing as the tyres have split and perished and the belts have become brittle, all brake need changing too as you can probably imagine they wont be performing their best atm.

Still i wanted to see how the electrics were, so i put the battery on from the mk2 golf and hey presto, everything works prefectly, electric arial, sound system (seriously) sounds so crisp, clear and bassy, radio, fans, lights etc etc....

... the Pièce de résistance is when i give the key fob a try and this is what happened. turn your speakers up

Image

....more to come

GOOD NEWS - IT LIVES

plugs, leads, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, oil, new battery and its first proper drink since 1997.

turn of the key, chug chug chug chug... nothing

few presses on accelerator, turn of the key, chug chug chug chug... nothing

turn of the key, chug chug chug chug... chugga chugga chugga... broom.. sweet as a nut

Im sure cooper will be along with the video he got.

now the cars lights were super erratic to start with and no interior lights what so ever but after about 45mins warming up after its 15year sleep they all seem to working ok, needs a new dash light dimmer switch as you cant get the lights up full.

Later i had figured out that the connections in the light switch had coroded, so i took a visit to my electric genius of a mate who had a spare switch and he changed all the gubbins over into my switch..... lights work perfect now.

Massive thanks to theboysmiffy who supplied me with a pair of brand spanking NOS amber Indy lenses.

the rocco had its first wet wash after 15 years wait. I've removed the fogs, which i think has tidied up the front end lots and also had the few dents removed so its no all straight thanks to Paul (just dents)

and put in the new indy lens so its all pretty much complete cosmetically. Just need to sort out the engine bits and bobs, brakes, wheels and suspension.

Heres a few pics from the meet which kurt kindly took. thanks buddy.

Picked these up yesterday as a easy/cheaper aolution to het the car through and mot. all the old tyres had perished and split due to its time in storage ao with all good enough tread on these its one step closer to being on the road.

Not the best but still not to shabby.

they'll do for now at least but i really want a set of wide arse splits once the weather get better.

still got a few jobs to do to get it ready for mot.

change:

All belts
all brakes (does anyone know and easy upgrade on these? e.g. MK1gti brakes?)
another full service
and a full stainless (or just a back box for now)

tie the knot in a few weeks, then moving house (again) 5 days after, so nothing will be happening till I'm home from the honeymoon.

can't bloody wait to get this on some twists after Andy L has worked some magic to stiffen the front end up.

took for a little test drive around wynyard (private roads) and it feels so smooth not the oblong wheels and tyres are off, if the RA's stay (which i like tbh) defiantly be going for much lower profile tyres, would prefer some staggered splits though.

heres how it looks, sorry i have no tyre dressing at home, and its desperate for some.

Also took all the mud flaps off as one was missing and everything is absolutely solid, as are the arches, needs a good clean underneath but shouldn't take much to get this (on my old golf driver)

Amazing story Phil and such a lovely car. I'm assuming with the reference to theboysmiffy and taking her for a drive around Wynyard that you're in the North East somewhere? If so I hope you get along to one of our mini meets over the summer.

:beers:

Yeh thats right buddy, i live in wynyard so took the car for a little test drive whilst it was quiet. i'll do my best, you'll have to let me know when they are on.

bit of progress today...

picked up the coils at 8 this morning and cracked straight on with it.

theres still plenty of adjusting to do but after a few mishaps, i decided to pack away and give it a quick mini detail before putting it away until tomorrow.

anyways heres some pics.

cam belt and aux belt are the last 2 things for me to do and then its MOT time :dunno:

Also had a quick 2 minute under bonnet detail to keep my hands clean when changing the belts tomorrow.

There is a show in Biggar in the borders that the north east owners attend, last weekend of this month, we will be having a convoy up on the Sunday and meet up with the Scottish owners and take over the show and shine!
