Brake linkage removal - Dash out??
Hi, hoping for a quick reply! How does the brake linkage come away? The three bolts arrangement stop me from just pulling the linkage away - it looks as though the whole steering column needs to move. Is that right?? Theres a funny bolt looking thing which doesnt have a way of un-doing to make this possible.

Re: Brake linkage removal - Dash out??
no-one?
Sorry if i was a bit unclear. all bolts un-done, pivots all removed, just left with the transfer brace. Two bolts go horizontally through the bulkhead. two go vertically through the cross brace below. I cant pull it up, and I cant pull it out. Just Puzzled. unless I remove the steering column which doesnt look fun at all.

I pulled mine out on sunday. I was at the same stage as you and it wouldn't budge, so I removed my column (lucky for me its already been changed in the past and I had no dash in
) But even once it was removed it still wouldn't budge... I had missed one of the nuts under the crossbrace bar (that was a pain to get to) So I can't really tell you thh

Thanks for the reply! I'm gonna give it another bash tonight. The puzzling bolts are the ones at the top of the steering coloum, they have nothing to grip, they are almost like rivets...

The columns are fitted with security bolts, I think they were used to make replacing the column/ignition a problem for theives back in the day. Ive chizeled them round on Mk1 golfs in the past.
If all 4 nuts/bolt are undone. surely it should just pull off? Have you removed the rest of the brake linkage and the servo from the other side?

Yep the box is off, all that is left is the cross bar. If you pull up, the horizontal bolts restrict it. If you pull out towards you, the vertical bolts restrict it. :(
Looks like i'm going to have to have a go at the security bolts...
