probably an easy one but tbh my funds are limited at the moment due to losing my job so i'd like to get some advice prior to spending any money. I have an 89 rocco scala 1.8i (i belive thats a k-jet?) anyway, i bought it a couple of months back because it was too cheap to pass up on and thought it would make a nice little project to get ready for summer and i've not really touched it till now. When i bought it i noticed the idle was quite irratic switching between 1000-2000rpm and then dropping to nearly cutting out which i thought at the time may be the ISV? The last time i drove it was a couple of months ago when i moved house i had to drive it across down, unfortunately during the course of the journey the exhaust has given big time, i'm more inclined to think it's manifold gaskets either for the exhaust or the inlet. it's now been stood for a couple of months as i've been getting on with the house and i've tried starting it up and moving it and now it really takes a lot of starting and it wont idle on it's own, as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it cuts out no matter how long you warm it up. could this be the ISV? or a friend of mine suggested the auto-choke could need a fettle? I can find a bit of info online about similar issues that people have had but they have all been carb motors whereas this is an injection model...
please help if you can, thanks.

No auto choke on k-jet, so you can rule that out; the air/fuel mixture during warmup is controlled by the Warmup Regulator and the Auxiliary Air Valve, in concourse with the metering head.
When it's running (with the accelerator pressed), is it lumpy or does it run smoothly? Sounds like a starvation issue to me initially.

hey,
firstly thanks alot for your responses, I'm based in Retford, Notts, DN22 7AF so if anyone does want to lend a hand feel free! I guess you could say it is lumpy yes, although with the exhaust/gaskets issue its hard to tell really as it just sounds like a bag of spanners! I've maybe been a little hasty getting it up on here because i've not given it a real good going over yet as i've not had chance. trouble is i could do with it running without my foot having to be on the pedal so that i can locate the issue with the exhaust and rectify that!!!
I've got a feeling i'll be in the market for some second hand parts in the near future btw if anyone knows of any locals breaking any?

My car has been running without the isv (I assume it's the ISV, it's the little black box on the left) and the wur and it's been starting first time.
It's been running really lumpily and it was an exhaust gasket and the timing. Check all the vac hoses as well.
