Mk1 Front Panels

Post by Ryan »

Now then, can anyone tell me (with part numbers and pics please  ) the differences in front panel options for the mk1.

I here tell of a front lip on the early panels....(would this actually get in the way if fitted to later cars?)

My panel is part number 531 805 591 P and looks similar to this (pic nicked from Craig - keep one eye open mate ;) )

I need to get a decent pic of mine, but will have to wait until the weekend when I can do it in something resembling daylight...

I checked my copy of ETKA and it doesn't give part numbers for the front panel :dunno:

Looking at the parts I still have here , the whole front panel is 531 805 591P with the lower lip, led to believe that is for the early cars 75+ but unsure when the change date was.

Have just the lower vallence piece with 531 805 595B on it still with the large lower lip .

Also have another valence only item with no lip, but part number tag has dried out and gone... :ire:

The top section ( slam panel ) from info I managed to aquire from VW Classic parts old website shows these being 531 805 563C and J , still can be bought from Heratige VW

Hope that helps those searching..

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor

Trying to sell mine mate - but most people showing interest are getting hung up on the early/late debate...

Given the amount of welding & grinding involved in replacing a whole front panel anyway it wouldn't be too much hassle to just cut the lip off (as they say in the Sudan).

ha ha, they want a front panel for a mk1 but are moaning about it being an early one? Pfft, some folk. I don't imagine the alternatives are plentyful.

I'm pleased you found a part number guys, the one i noted down has been put somewhere safe!

Is strange that people are getting hung up on the early/late thing, front panels are not exactly plentyful!
