New member. Mk1 Storm.

Post by snowbeluga »

Hullo all. Got this at the end of November and it's been with my mechanicy bloke since, whilst he's done welding etc to get it through it's first mot it in a few years (he's been doing it on the side and has taken his sweet time).

Sills were a bit rotten, and the inner wing DS was gone, but mechanically sound.

However I have been informed that this is the week that I get her back and I'm way too excited!

I will undoubtedly be posting for a couple of things in the wanted section, so I'll get over there in a bit.

Anyway here are a couple of pics I got before it went to the garage...

As soon as I get her back there will be pics galore..!

Anybody else here from Norwich / Norfolk with a MK1..?

Max

Haha that's amazing, this is why I've been trying to register for the last few months, such a wealth of knowledge..!

The guy I got it off was called Mark, somewhere up North. From what I gather he must've bought it a few years a go, run it for about 4 or 5 years and garaged it for 2 or 3. Think it was in tip top condition when he garaged it but you can tell it's been stored somewhere slightly damp, nothing serious though.

Would love to see some of those pics if they're online...

Can't wait to get it back to a superb condition!

Are there any mk1 scirocco or just scirocco meets in norfolk..?

:hi: Looking forward to seeing some more photos. I had one of these identical and enjoyed putting it back to good condition, even though it was eye watering in terms of time and cost...great cars and good to see another being restored. Good luck.

Haha, yeah as soon as it's back it will be getting all sorts of cosmetic treats, any recommendations for getting the bumpers black, is that spray good..? I was going to use back to black, but I haven't used it in such a long time I can't remember if it's any good.

I will most definitely be at whitenoise this year, be good to see some faces there, maybe arrange a meet before hand and turn up en mass ha.

I know I posted in the wanted section, but if anyone has an un-cracked dash I would be over the moon!

I remember those bizarre half-denim seats. Are you fully leathered-up yet?

Welcome along to the register.

There is lots of help and advice on here,

Looks good in the pictures, one thing I did noticed is those strut top mounts look a bit past there best, hope you have changed them or going to?

Indeed, once I get it back from mot and my Bentley manual through I'll set about rebuilding most of the front end. Any good shocks / springs kits you'd recommend..? I'd rather go with shocks than coilies, think it keeps it a bit more factory.

With the seats, I'm on the lookout for new interior but I guess storm interior is hard to come by... easier to re-trim..?

I went for the standard set up, Boge gas shocks, VW orginal springs (just repainted them) and Febi top monts, bump stops and dust covers.

http://vwspares.co.uk/
These people sell the Febi stuff.

I've found the GSF and Euro car parts top mounts don't last more than a couple of years.

GSF sell the Boge shocks but you need ask for it.

They crop up more often than you'd think - the interior was probably one of the things that was definitely saved from nearly every scrapped Storm. They appear on eBay reasonably frequently, as well as the VW forums.
