Project Scala.

I dont get much time to post on the forum at the moment, but that doesnt mean im not busy on the Rocco front ! Last year a forum member contacted me about doing some welding on his Scala, it was the usual story of rot under the bodykit. Rear arches, sills, n/s beam mount and the rear panel had all suffered from tin worm. So he dropped the car off at the beginning of December and i made a start.








So i start off by cutting out the rotted metal.




Then i can start welding in repair pieces. I repaired the wheel arch with the arches cut from front wings.






Then the repaired sections are skimmed with filler and painted with a rust proofing zinc primer.

Not much spare time at all this week but just enough to get the welding finished on the rear panel, cut out the exhaust hole and give the repair its first skim of filler. It needs to be rubbed down and then probably skimmed again to get a decent finish before paint.


I also started to cut out the rust from the driver side arch, which to be fair, is in fair worse condition than the passenger side. Most of the inner arch is also rotten, so i started by welding in the first of the repair pieces.


All this has to be cut out and repaired next.

Indeed Jim, but more to the point, how the hell has it passed its last few MOTs ? Granted a lot of it is hidden by the bodykit, but its not rocket science to see the rot around the beam mounts and sills.

Oh and in the middle photo of the last 3, you can just see Project Polo (breadvan) getting its nose into the shot.

i recon there would be a few of us more inclined to buy a few project cars knowing there was someone out there who could do this sort of stuff

Nice work Mark. That puts me to shame moaning about a few bits & bobs to be done. It looks like it has come from up my way because all the ones I looked at up here were like that. Credit to you sir.
