Mk1 Bumper Chrome Stripping

Post by MCBailey »

Hey there all,

Been trying to do some research online but not really finding much luck on the stripping back of chrome part.
I recently bought some Chrome Bumpers but they're rusty and pitted on the front so arn't exactly very pretty to look at. For this reason I was going to strip the chrome and paint them in a black as personally I like the style of the chrome bumpers but the black colour of my stock GLS bumpers against the calibri green.

If anyone has any sort of ideas how best for me to go about it I'd appreciate it!

Many thanks for any input you have, Mark :)

P.S. sorry if I've upset anyone by planning to strip rare chrome bumpers :(

Hi mate, if they were mine I would be looking into getting them blasted and powder coated.

Hi, I did exactly that with a set of chrome bumpers -had them blasted and powdercoated black. Have a look here http://www.sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/ ... =3&t=11268 to see how it looks.

Alternatively if you want to keep the chrome its not hugely expensive get them blasted and re-chromed.

Hey thanks for your quick replies and helpful advice both of you!

Thanks especially for the example on the car there! Didn't even realise that when I looked through your for sale thread originally! :dash:
Has helped me decide what I want to do with them though :)
