Has anyone ever managed to replace the round, green locking cover that fits on the end of the clutch release housing without lowering the engine/gearbox from the car? This is the cap with the VW logo embossed on it. If so, how did you manage to get it off?
Haynes suggests lowerring the engine/transmission down, but this seems a bit of a fuss just to replace the end cap for cosmetic reasons, so i was just wondering if anyone had managed to do it another way? Also, does oil spill out when the cap is taken off?

It's a bit of a faf, but jack it up and take the wheel off, should be okay there's space!
