Carb'd Car Running Injection Head Questions.

Post by Risocco »

Hey all, if I were to do the above on my GT, what would you recomend I do about the two following questions?

1) Blocking Injectors?
2) Blocking off the carb waterway on the inlet manifold face?

As I understand it, you can block injectors with 1p coins and loads of hylomar. But isnt there another way involving a gearbox seal or something?

As for the water way, should I weld the face of the head, or block off the supply from the metal pipe it gets its feed from?

Thanks in advance as always gents

Alex

hey Alex, how sngs?

You can block off the injector holes with 1p coins welded/bonded in or something or use four gearbox plugs.

You will need to block off the water supply to the inlet manifold. On the carb cars the 2E2 carb is warmed up by coolant. If you fit the manifold to the injection head and don't block the water feed the head will fill with coolant!

Yeah, sound with that matey, just how would you go about doing it if it were your car dude? Im thinking a big bolt and a load of Hylomar again. But is there a prettier way?

Thanks again :buddy:

Of the top of my head they are the 17mm gearbox fluid plugs that screw in. Dunno part number boss, not sure if GSF carry them. Alternatively alarge bolt with the right thread will be good for the job.

If it was my car i'd probably weld up the hole, or you could do the Nate version above!

Doh! Forgot to ask, should I use 1.8 injection spark plugs/dizzycap/HT leads/rotor if running this set up, or stick totally with the original 1.6 carb'd stuff? Or maybe some combination of the two?

Again gents, any help much appreciated :good:

if the bottom end is the still the 1.6 Alex then you should be ok with your original dizzy and leads. Nothing else has changed bar a larger valve head. (?)

Sorry buddy, yeah that is correct. 1.6 bottom end, 1.8 injection head.

Bump! Please, any help? This is the last thing I'm stuck on. Do I need injection plugs, or stick with the original 1.6 carb'd ones please?

Thanks,

Alex

Is there a difference? if so, wasn't aware mate. BTW, thought about fitting a 1.8 bottom end whilst you are in there?

Think GSF part numbers are different for injection/carb plugs, but I'm with you geez, cant be that much difference. I'll see if she fires on 1.6 plugs and worry about it after if not. :good:

Thought about 1.8 bottom end, but I have plans involving 2.1 bottom end instead. Just need the dollar first, isn't it always the way? :crying:

Ta muchly for the help dude, appologies for my dense-ness!

pistons are diffent on carb and injection engine

the dish on the top of the piston one is flat and one has a dish (can think which way round it is)

the plugs to block the head holes are the gearbox drain hole plugs there alloy
