My Scirocco gt 1.6, it needs brakes and shocks all round for its mot and a few other bits, it had been stood for a while before i got it. it was meant to be my daily drive.... and hopefully will be soon.

Good luck with the rebuild if thats all you need for an MOT, No reason why it cant be a daily drive, I find brakes and suspention easier and cheaper than lots of rotten metal which normally curse the scirocco. :good:

Cheers, must admit ive been quite lucky on the rust it has a couple of minor spots that i'm gonna treat, but it apears it was well looked after untill it was taken of the road a couple of years ago, and had been stored under cover most of its life. after a very bad expearience with a beetle i am very wary of rust.

sounds like you speak from experience, The current plan is to leave the body kit on until i have enough cash put aside for a respray, eventualy i would like it back to its former glory, nice bright red, but like i said that'll be later, the inside looks worse, the seats are very tired and the dash is sereously warped and cracked. i have a feeling that although it shouldnt take to much to get back on the road, its going to take me a lot longer to get everything back to the way i would like it, just right.

You'd be surprised at what a machine polish can do to revive old paint, might save you a bit of cash and keep the old girl more original too?

You can tell what the car is like under the body kit at the rear wheel arches by having a look and feel along the wheel arch lip on the inside, also worth cleaning any mud trapped there. A good look and feel at the fuel filler neck is always a good idea.

Cheers for the advice, ive cleaned out the rear arches, quite a bit of mud but surprisingly little rust, i have found a problem, i thought that as i had it up in the air i thought i would check the bushes etc, the bushes on the rear beam/axle are shot, but a lot more worrying the brackets that they sit in are rusty and the studs and nuts that hold them on are well rusted to the point of breaking up, any advice about where replacements can be found. I'm assuming that i would have to cut of the old nuts and studs, possibly weld a new plate on with new studs, dose this sound about right?

Go to the main dealers for new nuts and bolts, they will fit! Bushes can be bought from GSF or ECP for a couple of quid each.
