You could try changing the fuel gauge sender, it's in the tank (I have one for sale).
Depends on which coolant flange you have earthed it on, one of them is plastic!

i used to have a passat that the fuel gauge only worked when the tank was brim full. soon as it dropped much more than a needle width below full it would read empty and the temp gauge would stop working too. don't know if the rocco would suffer similarly. try earthing out the fuel sender and see what happens.

Hello all. Thanks very much for the advice you guys have given me. I had another look today after work and took the clocks out, i checked the voltage from the voltage regulator on the back of the clocks and found the reading too high 11.2 volts. Anything higher than 10.5 means the unit is defective. I replaced the voltage reg which is still available from vw and hey presto the fuel and temp gauge are working!! To say im chuffed is an under statment!! I hope this is usefull to people experiancing the same problem.

As a matter of interest, how much was the voltage regulator from VW ?

Hi the voltage regulator was about £13 if i recall, i may have got a small discount from parts as i work there thou!!
