Rearview mirror mod

Post by mr.brown »

OK, so the one that came with my car was knackered and I thought the chance of getting a new one was quite slim. I took a chance and splashed out $30 on ebay -

Autodimming and compass :vcool:

Slots straight onto the standard mount and wires into the light (just botched for now). Each function has on/off switch so (hopefully) no battery drain.

And if you're thinking it's a bit big - it's not.

There are hundreds of these on ebay as they come standard on many cars - they are made by Gentex and some include temp sensors/display, garage door opening, LED map lights and even LCD displays for reversing cameras!.

I can't remember if it's the same with UK cars or not but here there is a metal "wedge" glued to the screen. The base of the original mirror slides over this and is secured by a small allen screw. The new mirror slid into place over the wedge.

ebay.com - just search for "Gentex mirror" or "Donelly mirror".

Yeah it's the same for UK ones.

And since you mentioned big mirrors, my surfboard mirror:

It interferes with the visors a bit!
