CLUNK!!! hmm....

Post by haddock_n_chips »

Hey all

ok the handbrake has gone all shit on me, sometimes it feels nice and stiff when i put it on and other times it has a fair bit of travel

also after being parked with the handbrake on when you first press the brake to stop there is a nice loud THUNK/CLUNK but after that everything is normal

i havent bothered looking at it yet, but was going to have a look over the weekend and wondering if anyone had any pointers where to start!!

WiLL....

Hi Will, Take the rear drums off and the problem will be self evident, probably the brake shoe retaining springs or pins are shot allowing the shoes to float about which will cause the clunk and slack handbrake. Might be awkward to get the drums off if the shoes are out of alignment though!!

Brake fitting kit from GSF, about £6 has all the springs and bits but not seen them anywhere as individual parts.

either that or the adjusting wedges are worn, and slip when you put the handbrake on. these are not included in the fitting kit though
