Starting problem - won't turn over when hot

Earth straps look ok, have cleaned them up with a wire brush.
I've just got back and tried lifting and lowering the key when turning - nope that didn't work either.

Got other problems now - have put a new fan belt on and it's squeeling worse than the old one...and bulb replacements on the front!

And some old dear on the garage forecourt got a good duffing over. Shame you couldn't make a fast getaway

That didnt help, but I'd be inclined to think it would be something to do with the cold start circuit, it is after all directly connected to the start circuit. Just a guess though, fault finding on the net is challenging at best

And then it conked out today while out and about. Am going to re-clean the earth straps and connections under the bonnet...if it still does it, it's off to a garage, as it's got me stumped. Sometimes you just have to give in to the inivitable - unless someone wants to come round and sort it - cash waiting!

Put a brand new starter motor on it today, and fault remains. Oddly bashed the steering column as was annoyed...it then started...new ignition switch me thinks!

Whats kickback? Cause my carbed rocco is doing the same thing except the engine turns. Leave her half hour and she fires up fine! Damm odd

Pierburg or Weber?
This could just be flooding - either due to auto choke on pierburg not working properly, (applying choke when it's not required) or incorrect setup of Weber. Check if the spark plugs are wet next time it does it.

Yes its a pierburg carb, shes also develped a low idle (600 rpm) and is hunting

we have the same problem with our's, she won't restart when warm/hot, but she shows signs of a flat battery, she tries to turn over very slowly, if someone pushes her she goes, but she has had a new battery and alternator, and has only started doing it the last few weeks, since changing rocker cover gasket and cleaning top breather off rocker cover. have cleaned all earth straps, battery connections and starter connections, if left for 30+mins she will start!

sorry for hijacking this tread but hoping someone will have some idea as its doing our heads in aswell.

My next door neighbour has just bought a Scala that has excactly the same problem. Fine starting from cold, but once it was hot, turn the key to crank it and there was nothing at all, although all the ignition lights came on as they should. Tried a nearly new , fully charged battery, cleaned up all the earths and starter contacts and no improvement. The car is an automatic, so i didnt have a spare starter (different to manual cars) and as new ones were almost £130, i took the old starter off and took it to a local vehicle electrical specialist to be checked over. The guy there said it was down to a faulty solenoid failing when hot, he replaced the solenoid with a new one, i refitted it to the car and its been perfect ever since. The cost of the starter motor repair, including strip down, check over and new solenoid was £30 + VAT, bit of a bargain !!
