What sort of dizzy is this?

Post by the edmundator »

I bought some ignition leads from Euro Car(n't Supply the Right) Parts that don't fit my distributor cap.

I wondered whether this is because my distributor is a different type used on earlier models. When Bill came round the other day, we noticed that my '84 GTI has a few earlier features like a separate oil-cooler next to the radiator, so I wouldn't be surprised to find that other parts aren't the usual DX-engined car fare.

I think there are Bosch and Ducellier distributors for Sciroccos (from memory). Bosch is the usual type. Does this one look like your standard Bosch distributor? Unfortunately all the markings are round the back and I can't make them out without taking it off (which I don't want to do).

I thought I might try a new dizzy cap if the dizzy looks like the normal sort.

Ed, your car would have been fitted with a Bosch distributor. Take the cap off and look for part number 113 905 207C, this is the cap for a Bosch dizzy.
