AAAGGGHHH HELP!!! Quick!!

Post by haddock_n_chips »

Driving to work today everyhting was fine until about 10 miles into the journey

the radio started to go on and off, i thought it was just re-tuning itself at first but it was actually turning itself off and on again

then sat at idle the rev counter needle is all over the place! shooting form 1000-4000rpm even though the engine was idling fine

also the temp gauge was reading very low, its normally up to just under halfway 10miles into the journey and the fuel gauge had dropped down a quarter of a tank in about a mile!

Got to work ok with all these crazy things happening and turned off the car, but now it wont start again

i got power to the dash - all the lights come on as normal

but it wont turn over, nothing at all

any ideas?????

:bye:

from experience is sounds like an electrical problem...check all engine earthstraps, battery connections etc........if not one of these then look at the alt, have a sniff for that burnt out smell, it could be the busses or the voltage regulator on the alt... then finaly the battery,

If it is not broken, Do not fix it !!!

cheers,

luckily we have a workshop here at work so they are gunna have a sniff around when they get a chance

i think it may be something to do with the permanent live feed into the stereo or amp

i whipped the stereo out last week and reconnected it but i may have snagged a wire somewhere

we'll see! :good:
