How do you remove this pesky bracket?

Post by Cpt Custom »

Can anyone offer advice on how best to remove the pesky bracket that runs along the bulkhead from the servo unit and which is attached to the right bell crank?

Image

The arrangement of fixed bolts both coming off and into the bracket seem to make it impossible to remove without first removing the steering column and pedal bracket from the other side. Any advice or thoughts on this aspect of the task much appreciated as I’m reluctant to remove the steering column unless absolutely necessary.

Like I say, the bolt arrangement is a pain. There are two that come through the bulkhead that imply you need to bring the bracket forward to remove it …

Image

But then there are two fixed onto the bracket itself that project down underneath the bodywork …

Image

These imply you need to move the bracket upwards for removal, but you can’t do that because of the two bolts I mentioned previously …

Mine came out without removing the steering column somehow, I think brute force and ignorance were involved along with a pry bar, so it is possible. But I'd recommend moving the steering column as it will make it so much easier, I had to do that to mine so as not to damage the fresh paint when putting it back on.

Thanks guys. And yes Rich you did reply. I sort of double posted as I wasn't sure if anyone would pick up on my query in the restoration thread. :chortle:
