steering wheel boss problems! help!
vw scirocco mk2 scala on a j plate.
ok i hope this comes across ok.
i know there are 2 types of boss kits for the rocco a later large spline boss and a early small spline boss.
i have now bought 2 vw scirocco boss kits both have been the right size spline.
the problem lies with it not being able to push back far enough so the horn can make connection and the indicator self cancelling doesn't even come close!
when looking at the back of the boss it doesn't seem to be a wide enough cone shape and looks different shape to the original steering wheel.
if the cone shape on top of the shaft was a bit thinner then it would go on.
could this be because of the cone shape collet has moved or that there is a third type of boss?
i cant be the only person who has this problem?
any advise would be really helpful. thanks

Re: steering wheel boss problems! help!
Can you post photos of the various bosses, as that would be helpful in showing the problem.

Did you use an iPhone to take the photo's? If so, try pressing on your screen where you want it to focus and it should take a better picture.
Very fuzzy (so not a great deal to see)... but the boss one looks like the tab for the indies is bigger/chunkier.

believe it or not that is a 10mp samsung camera on macro!!! lol
the original is much more angled. if you look at the distance from where the splines end to the horn ring in the first pic your notice that the second pic (the boss) the distance is much shorter.
the boss in question, which to be honest is a much better boss then the first one i got.

as for the indicator tag being to chunky, well it looks ok but i cant even get it near the slot!
the problem is i can not get it over the fattest part on the shaft.....................

Re: steering wheel boss problems! help!
The bevel inside the new boss is not far enough in.... so the shaft isn't getting full penetration. Least that's my guess :)

Re: steering wheel boss problems! help!
i've come up with the exact same problem today. fitted the wheel for a bit anyway just to see what its like, but i think i'm going to just file down the profile of the outer bit so its conical like the original steering wheel.

Re: steering wheel boss problems! help!
ok i think i think iv sussed this problem! there is infact 3 different boss kits you can get for a mk2 scirocco!
most people and parts companys only think its 2.
up to 81
82 up to 88
89 onwards.
89 onwards is the hard one to find, i dont think you can get a cheap make of this type.
i hope this might help others.
