Mk 1 Front & Rear Screens

Post by jimmy h »

Evening folks,

Maybe as daft as my wanted door add in 'classifieds'

Can you still get front and rear screens?

Mine will have to come out when I get it painted, the last time I did it I broke one, that was '96 and scrapyards could still cater.

Or, is my only option to cut the seal with a knife (for a lot easier removal) and get new ones (seals) from Vintage rubber?

Whatever piece of glass is damaged on your vehicle, Autoglass® can help.

We can repair or replace any piece of glass on any make or model of vehicle and our workmanship is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle.
ok, so it won't be a genuine vw screen, but a lifetime guarantee can't be bad :)

If you can get your screen out of the old seal without cutting it, it'll be a lot easier to get the screens back in to the old rubber rather than getting new rubbers. I got a new screen seal for my old Polo, and delegated the fitting of it (re-using the old screen) to some local professionals. It took 2 of them over an hour of proper struggle to get it in!
I was chatting to an Autoglass guy a couple of weeks back, and he echoes those thoughts... Reuse old seals if possible!

Gents,

Thank you both for sensible advice.

I'm going to get Autoglass round to remove them first (before it goes for paint) then get them back to replace, after paint.
