Stuck!

Post by Tomsy »

Ok my scirocco mk2 storm been sitting for months unused as the steering was a bit dodge, needed new alternator and the revs wre idling at 2000rpm. and when i gave it to mechanics to test it, it came back without first gear, which i can do nothing about. Anyway all my money has gone into my skyline...which still isn't on the road and i'm currently driving my 03 fiesta 1.4tdi as my every day ride. Now i have a bit of money to sort out the car, i was going to sell it but i prob wont get a lot for it in this market, and i love the car. Now i'm thinking i should sell the fiesta, should get around 3k for that, and get the scirocco back on the road for a daily driver. But i'm torn between selling the scirocco or the fiesta. the sensible thing would be to keep the fiesta (diesel economy reliability etc) but i really like the rocco. agghhh! its really frustrating as i know i could make my storm look and drive really nice with a bit of money spent on it. plus its cheap insurance.
Any ideas of what you would do chaps?

Try to keep both. There are plenty of people on here that would help you with the Storm and definately plenty of bargains in the classifieds here.
Tell about the Storm and where are you based?

its a 84 blue storm, have to check the mileage but around 140k i think. i'd say near enough mint condition. was dry stord in a barn for 10 years. loads of k spent on in the past to keep it looking and running good. brand new alternator and belts. everything original no mods. i might keep and just not run for a while but keep it in good nick till i can make a better decision. can't really afford to sell the fiesta as its really reliable and a diesel. i'm based in hemel hempstead, the car in shenley.

Hemel Hempstead, so not far from a few of us on here then. I am always willing to lend a hand if I am free, just give me a shout.

If I knew where about a you were ( guessing its not near yorkshire) Ide offer to help you out.
I'm not working atm so I'm allways free :(

If it was me I would get rid of the durv burner and use the rocco as a daily :)

Rich, Hemel Hempstead is in Hertfordshire, a good 200 miles from where you are! It is always good to see people offering to lend a hand though, it is what makes a club in my opinion.

With the 3k you'd get for the fiesta, you could get the bits you need done to the rocco and buy an awful lot of petrol! ... If you wnated to get really Man-maths-y, consider the depreciation on the fiesta too... (compared with the stable/rising prices on roccos)

There aren't many components in the steering, so that job can't be too big...
I'm sure you'd soon get advice about the idle speed on here...
Then the lack of 1st gear... linkages? or box? either way, willing hands from local roccoists'll diagnose or remedy...

If that's all that's wrong, persoanlly, i'd have the Haynes and spanners out already!
