Hi all,
Im picking up a Red '89 Scala in a few weeks that I know hasn't moved for the past 5 years because of engine trouble. The rocco is going to be a long term project/hobbie and so I have been thinking of some different mods to do to the car mechanics wise.
What I was originally thinking was to run a 1.8 8v on carbs for the sound but then I heard a golf VR6 the other day and it got me thinking about putting one of those engines in the rocco instead. I know its been done to MK2 golfs loads of times but does anyone know whats involved in fitting it into a rocco?
Ive worked out by fitting the vr6 lump it would make the power about 190bhp per tonne which I think is quick enough for a 20yr old car.
Any help and advise would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Re: VR6 Transplant, Whats Involved?
It is possible - but the Rocco's weight distribution would be thrown right out. Better to go for an AGU or similar - the lighter the better, really.

Found in mk3 golfs Vento, and Passats of that time.
A tight squeeze into the rocco, but do-able. Requires some custom fabrication for engine mounts as the subframe is wildy different by this time. Quite a heavy lump too, and is know to really upset the handling of the lightweight mk1 golf. Comparitively expensive to get hold of, and much more work required to make it fit and run.

Found in the Corrado in addition to mk3 golf and passats.
The preferred VR6 of the era due to the added grunt, though all of the above (AAA) still applies.
(Both VR6 engines had a revised management system in later years that allowed a significant output boost through tweaking)
