Main dealer laugh

Post by kevtherev »

Went in today to try and get a couple of daft parts... no luck all obsolete.
still while I was there I thought I'd price up a clutch and a fitting price all from the main dealer as my local garage is doing it
VW want..
Clutch friction plate and pressure plate .... = £201
Fitting would four and a half hours @ £100 per hour ..... = £450

My local is charging £150 to fit and £115 for the LUK kit from GSF

sure made me laugh

LUK clutch £115 from GSF, wow that has gone up, last year I renewed the clutch on the Scala, full LUK kit from GSF £42 plus a couple of quid for the end cap and bearing!
I would ask them to check the price mate or try Euro Car parts!

It's not about how long it actually takes, it's how long the book tells them it takes.

I wanted the service light resetting on a Lupo, so I took it to the dealer. They said they'd have to charge me an hour's labour as they charge that as a minimum. I think that, including finding out how to do it (by searching the web), it took me 5 minutes.

If it's on a Smart, that's a bargain.

Or a Renault Megane. I saw a feature on Fifth Gear about changing a light bulb on one of those, I think it took well over an hour.

If you ever want a truely eyewaterring quote, ask a renault main dealer for a price to replace the heater matrix on a 2001 Espace.

Their answer will probably be "scrap it and go round the showroom for another one - it's the cheaper option".

the older ones are really easy. the newer ones have 2 screws at the top of the unit that will let you tilt if forwards just enough to get your fingers in. bit fiddly, but you'll do both in 10 minutes

I remember someone telling me that a mechanic used his own kid for the megane headlights,
as his hands were too big.
